On the other hand, how much you think they'd want for one of those 335's? Think you could get a good deal?

Well, I was just ASKING.....

Re: Gibson guitar truck stolen - be on the look out

OK...Ill be the first to say it!

BRILLIANT!!! Absolutely, positively, brilliant!

To be clear, my own morals would prevent me from enjoying the benefits of any of that nectar, even if it makes it over here to Japan... *Itd be a struggle with that 56 Gold Top though...

BUT!

Anyone here see the movie "Heat"? Imagine if the armored car heist had gone down without "Waingrow". Guys go in, grab da goodz, nobody gets hurt, the legal owner gets reimbursed by his insurance. Everybody makes out. Now, in the movie... the guards got hurt, but lets talk about this rig heist!

Generally when you steal a thing you want to flow like ninja. In, out, nobody knows you were there. Stealing a TRACTOR TRAILER PAINTED WITH BIG GUITARS??? Man, that took big big big brass ones.

Of course, that could have been pulled off by any crackhead to stupid to think about how high profile such a theft would be.

But to heist all those VELVETY guitars??? Genius.
Now, if it comes out that they dinged up all and broke some of the gear by tossing em in the back of a pickup truck, then I retract every single word of this post.

I also have to detract points for beating up the trailer. That was pointless.
But, as far as potential profitability? Sheer audacity? Come ON...!!!

Lastly, but most importantly, nobody got hurt. People in this world hurt other people to steal a lot less...

Re: Gibson guitar truck stolen - be on the look out

NAPERVILLE (STNG) -- He was nowhere near the scene of the crime, which itself was hardly as dark or intense as any of the fictional crises featured in his television series "24," but actor Kiefer Sutherland played a peripheral role in things just the same.

Twenty-four also turned out to be the number of vintage and collectible guitar replicas recovered by Naperville police after the recent hijacking of a motorized music museum, one that includes a six-string guitar bearing Sutherland's name.

Mark A. Carrothers, 34, of Highland, Ind., surrendered to Naperville police on a charge of felony theft in connection with the incident late last month on the city's far northwest side. Police eventually recovered all of the replicas from several locations in northwestern Indiana, Hoffman said. They remain in the police department's evidence storage.

Police Cmdr. Dave Hoffman said patrol officers were summoned at 12:30 a.m. Sept. 26 to the Cracker Barrel restaurant on W. Diehl Road.

The curator of the Traveling Gibson Guitar Museum had called 911 to report his black 2000 Dodge pickup truck and pull trailer had been stolen from the restaurant's parking lot, Hoffman said.

Hoffman said the truck and trailer were laden with 24 Gibson Guitar Corp. replicas. They ranged in price from $200 to $13,000 and had a total estimated value of just less than $60,000, he said.

The guitars included a Byrdland Vintage Sunburst model worth $4,450; a B.B. King Signature replica, valued at $1,819; and a Kiefer Sutherland KS-336 model worth $2,599, Hoffman said.

The missing truck and trailer were prominently detailed with Gibson insignia, Hoffman said.

Police recovered the emptied truck and trailer 20 minutes later near Interstate 88 and Highland Avenue in Downers Grove, Hoffman said.

Carrothers became the prime suspect in the theft "through a tip developed through the (police) Crime Stoppers network," Hoffman said.

Carrothers is free on bail and awaiting an arraignment date in DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton

that is an I.D. tag designed for pawnshops and music stores
the guitar has to be scanned for it to work.

Also thieves are fuc*in stupid... they will want cases for the guitars so they can sell the axe...

Re: Gibson guitar truck stolen - be on the look out

did you notice that several times in the news story the guitars were referred to as "Replicas" I didn't know a replica would be worth $13,000. I wonder why there was a deliberate effort to downplay the value of these instruments? other than to discourage other idiots from trying this type of heist.

That is what is called" Spin" News Organazations have been using it for dacades , its now a force of habit I guess , Downplay the facts, but sensationalize the crime I could name many such stories and cases , Forum rules though prevent political issues

This is why I was rooting for the criminals. To be a lowdown snake and swipe some guys guitar while backstage in the dark of night... thats some lowdown filth.

But to snatch a truck and trailer with GIBSON written across it in broad daylight... Thats either some methhead nonsense, or some David Copperfield action. I wouldvt liked it to have been some romanticized superhuman whatnot... but it was just a typical knucklehead

How are you gonna fence a truckload of stolen GIBSONS in the heartland??

Just when I start cheering for humanity and getting optimistic about what we can achieve in the future... I keep getting reminded WHY SKYNET will decide what it will.

They busted the guy.
Saw somewhere they caught him, and most of the guitars were recovered.

Perhaps Gibson should have a truck that's a little more "low-key"?

LOL
If he had a Jury full of guitar players , He just might walk.

But then if I were the prosecutor. I'd point out that he also took
the Kweefer Sutherland model which proves it wasn't a Case of Genuine G.A.S !

Hmm Liberal or Conservative guitar players, I dunno, If I was on the jury, I'd say hang em ! Guitar thieves are lower than horse theives , Gibson better lojack the truck and trailor seperately

I dunno.
How about a jury full of guitar players that have had a guitar stolen from them?

They might strangle him if the judge looked away for a second....
