ZZtop

Is on there way... Wooohoo.. 53 Bucks per ticket sucks... I can remember when you'd spend 10 bucks to see 3 bands... Just can't wait to see Mr. Gibbons...

Have faith... They did 2 dates at the Beacon last September. Am sure they will be back. Saw them one of those nights and they were great. Billy G has massive tone.

I don't know what part of NY you're from, but they are playing on August 25th, in Syracuse, NY at the NY State Fair.

For that much you should ask what side of the stage you should stand on and what amp will you be using.

I saw them at the Hearnes Multipurpose Building at Mizzou in 1977 for about $4.50.
I bought tickets for their last show at the Kiel Center in St. Louis for about a hundred bucks each. It was the best show I ever saw, and I would pay it again.
I have tickets for the Fox Theatre show at much less than that.
I have seen ZZ Top about 18 times now, and I will pay whatever it costs to see them every time they come to St. Louis.

Re: ZZtop

unfortunately, i don't thinks they're swingin' by here,either......scored the new DVD...yeah,its not the "worldwide texas" tour.....but still pretty fantastic....heard that the stacks of Crate combos (in the DVD)are dummy amps....that the Rev. has his modded Marshall behind the scenes....

Re: ZZtop

Im ashamed to say I just started really getting into ZZ Top. I knew em from their 80s hits when I was in school, but never really paid attention. Come to find out recently that the good Reverend is the architect of some of the greatest stripper anthems around (La Grange and Tush) Those are now iPod staples for me. Im hoping I can get my band on board with learning to play them. This band thing is a little like herding cats...

As far as pricey tickets go... I paid about $100 per to go see Prince before moving to Japan for the Musicology tour. I just paid about $90 per to see Lenny Kravitz in September in Tokyo Budokan.

I dont know if Id pay that much to see the Rev. until after I learned to play at LEAST La Grange...

In '76 or '77 I paid $6.75 to see Aerosmith with some backup band from Australia. Bon Scott was the singer and they BLEW Aerosmith away. Most of Aerosmith's show was the audience chanting "AC....DC".
6 bucks....man, those were the days !...had great seats to boot.

Re: ZZtop

I remember the last Zeppelin tour I saw was in 77 I believe, those years are a little fuzzy. But I do remember the ticket price was $7.00 and the event was "An Evening with Led Zeppelin" no opening band, just 3 hours of Zeppelin at LSU. Saw them twice there in the mid 70's same venue, same format, just Zeppelin.

Regarding ZZ Top, I've seen them so many times I can't count. Between New Orleans and Dallas, probably 10-12 times over the years. I actually caught them with Skynyrd here in Dallas a few years ago. I was fortunate enough to see Skynyrd a few times before the plane crash too, damn I miss those guys.

The first time I saw ZZ Top in concert was back in later 74 or early 75 at the Warehouse in New Orleans. That show became Fandango live and the opening act was none other than Robin Trower. I think it was $4.00 to get in or a square yard or more of carpet to get in. Seriously, back then the Warehouse was a wild place, it was literally an empty warehouse downtown right off the river, EVERYONE WAS STONED. Some shows they'd let you in free is you brought some scrap carpet to sit on and left it. There were no chairs, just standing room pretty much, those were some weird times back then but damn some good music.

Re: ZZtop

I kinda lost interest in ZZ after Eliminator -too disco-y for me , but I picked up a cheap copy of Rythmeen and tht's not too bad....
But their early stuff is what white boy, flat out, texas boogie/blues is all about!
MAn they were truly incredible for a three piece band.
Saw them first time in 1973 as the opening act for the final 10 Years After tour at Madison Square Garden. Billy blew Alvin away! Me and my buddies got back to our little hick town in up state NY and none of us could find their records. About 2 months after the show Tres Hombres came out.... Man did we rock out!!! Those were the F*@#ing days!

They are worth seeing again. They don't play much of their 90's music, it's mostly the good earlier stuff and they are tighter than ever. It's worth the price of admission.

They came through here last year with the Stray Cats and the Pretenders. The tix said "7:30" but the show actually started at 7:00 and we missed the Stray Cats. I am still devastated over that and so is my wife and our friends. None the less the Pretenders and ZZ Top kicked A$$.....I'm not even a Pretenders fan but they were exceptional.
