Is this really something to be worried about? It all sounds crazy to me... Why would they confiscate your guitar just like that. Guess the Gibson factory might be in problem, but not the Gibson players!

Re: I'm retiring my Custom...at least for now.

I wouldn't retire it. Nice guitars are always at risk for theft. Hell, my band had all of our amps stolen from a club one night. There is nothing you can do to prevent it, unless you chain the guitar to your arm.

Why would they?

Why wouldn't they? It's a badass guitar. And incidentally, how do you know the players aren't the problem? I'm mindful of the fact the raid is only a week old and the rock off the ground's just been lifted. It's not going to get any prettier...

i love his mentality.

raise your gibsons over your head and revolt!

that's got a recipe for win written all over it.

he should write for a prime time drama series.

i can't wait until they start stamping "Made, after every part was inspected, aged, and cured by the US FISH AND WILDLIFE DEPT, in the USA" on the back of the headstock.

A couple of years ago, I was going to bring my guitar to Vancouver for the week. This is just a fairly new LP. I was warned to better get some kind of paper work showing legal use of ebony. Now, WTF, I just bought the guitar and I did not make it, nor do I know where the ebony fret board came from! No correct paper work; the guitar will be confiscated.

I understand, that you and I can face loosing our guitars that we legally and in good faith bought from GC or other large retailer...unfortunately in this instance, there's a paper trail from Gibson to retailers to buyers. Buying from individuals might be harder to trace unless the Feds raid your home...not funny.

Maybe I'm getting paranoid?

let them raid me...all i can afford is an epiphone les paul...

Re: I'm retiring my Custom...at least for now.

THIS IS FVCKING RIDICULOUS! WE AS THE BUYER OF GIBSON GUITARS SHOULD NOT BE PUNISHED BECAUSE WE DIDN'T KNOW THE WOOD ON OUR GUITAR MIGHT BE ILLEGAL! And "incomplete paper work"? That just means the guitar has been sold a few times. I think for the price of three or four Gibson's we could finance a trip to Madagascar or where ever, cut down the illegal wood our self's, and put it on our one Les Paul or SG.

So this also means that all ebony wood on Zakk Wylde's, Angus Young's, Jimmy Page's guitars are also illegal? How fvcking far are they going to take this?

Right now, the Custom's just too easy of a target to spot. In person the top is...I dunno...it's definitely something you can immediately identify as old, and it doesn't sound quite like anything else I own.
You had a guitar taken away because of the Lacey Act or stolen?

To be fair some of Angus's SGs have ebony boards and Page has his Custom that he seems to like playing.

thanks, i honestly did not know that.

when i saw page he only played what appeared to be standards. but that was the 96 unleaded tour.

edit: also i'm fairly certain they could come up with documents to satisfy US F&W. or just tour other parts of the world.

Thieves at a gig!?

I bet the government's idea is that they can confiscate say 5,000 Gibsons, use undercover agents to re-sell them, confiscate them again, re-sell them again and so on. Its a very good strategy for lowering the national debt, or getting that new armor plated Lincoln for everyone in the government.
