Talking Strap Locks

Hey guys, I've been reading posts here on the forum for a while now but just decided to sign up. My guitar is a 2008 Les Paul Traditional Plus, Iced Tea finish. I absolutely love it! However, the second I picked it up I knew it would need strap-locks. I got a pair and they're great, but I wanted to hear about what you all use; if you even use them! In my opinion, I don't think you could play a les paul live without strap locks. I look forward to hearing your responses.

Re: Strap Locks

I've been a Schallar user for about 20 years, after I had a Dunlop pop out on me.

...but on my most recent buy I decided to go with Grolsh rings. I'm still sketchy about them but thousands of middle aged bedroom players can't be wrong, right? lol

I'm a schallers guy.

just be sure to verify they're still sitting tight on the strap every now and then.

Re: Strap Locks

I heard some sketchy things about dunlops with les pauls, so I went with Schallars. They've been nothing but good to me so far.

Re: Strap Locks

I put Dunlops on mine after I bought it, but recently switched them with Schallers, for no reason other than those dual design Dunlop buttons are way to freaking huge. They're like doorknobs.

Yeah. Sissies, and people who don't like breaking their guitars by accidentally dropping them onstage in front of every cute girl in the bar.

Re: Strap Locks

I put Schallers on my Traditional Plus. I was a little iffy about shoving toothpicks and glue in my brand new Gibson, but I did it and it seems to do the job.

Re: Strap Locks

for the best tone, you should use african mahogany toothpicks. but it must be aged to a minimum 9 years.

Grind the stock screws down, you see the bottom screw is thicker, because there is more sheer force applied to that strap button. Gibson does everything for a reason.

One more proof that gibson is superior in EVERY F'ING SINGLE WAY down to the strap buttons!

But really, it has to do with their painting process, if I remember correctly, gibson bodies are hung upside down from a hook that's attached to the body where the bottom strap button would be.

C'mon man, it's a Fender, it don't need no straplocks! If it goes flying, well, that's just part of the show. If it goes out of tune upon hitting the floor, it isn't really out of tune, you're just experimenting with alternate tunings.

So which kind of wood gives you the best toothpick tone?

Haha! Well, the main reason I bought locks is because I got my guitar strap signed by Joe Bonamassa on the inside of the end of it that goes on the guitar, so I didn't want it rubbing on the guitar (it probably wouldn't but another excuse ).
