Hi guys;
I'm little confused. I found 1999 Les Paul Studio for a good price.(750$)with H.S.C Only bad thing, the paint is not in good condition. The gold pic-up covers are pretty worn, and there is enough wear on the up-side of the body to see that it`s a maple top.And also at the top and the bottoms there are many scratches and dings.Other then according the seller no repairs(i don't know is there a way to check this one). On the other hand Epiphone L.Paul Custom Zakk Wylde is in perfect condition(Brand new) for 650$ with H.S.C. Only bad thing i know it is not coming with active EMG pickups like the Gibson Zakk Wylde. But if i buy Epip, i am planing to upgrade pickups with EMG 81/85 active ones. Anyone who doesn't know the guitar that is the picture. I know Gibson better than Epip, but one of them has scratches, dings, other one has perfect bullseye paint job. What u guys thinking, go for Gibson or Epi? Last edited by DimebagFan; 08-01-2008 at 10:37 PM. |

Re: 1999 Les Paul Studio Vs. Epiphone L.Paul Custom Zakk Wylde Bullseye(new)
i have a 95 Studio. and she's a beast. the gold is wearing off and she's covered in scratches and dings, but she's still got it.
i dont know what used studios go for, but $750 seems kinda high for a 9 year old guitar in that condition. |

Hmm, after the comments, i start to think it is high as well..may be after little bargain i can take down the price to 650$.
Other than Gibson's price, what you guys think about Custom Epip. Zakk W. If i change the pickups, can i get the same sound quality with a studio Gibson ? |

i am no expert by any means, but my limited experience is that putting active EMGs will make most guitars sound the same.

Re: 1999 Les Paul Studio Vs. Epiphone L.Paul Custom Zakk Wylde Bullseye(new)
It will probably sound the same with the upgrade, the 750.00$ sounds a little high,if you look you could do better on a studio. Less money for the same guitar or same money for a guitar in better shape,Offer him 500 and see if he takes it in a couple of weeks, those Epis are cool and their not going anywhere.
Welcome to the forums.

Re: 1999 Les Paul Studio Vs. Epiphone L.Paul Custom Zakk Wylde Bullseye(new)
Brand new studios aren't all that much more than that...........
I don't like Zakk sig LPs so I would look at something else, if you want the EMG's check out the Epi Prophecy EX LP Custom, satin finish on neck, EMGs, and great quilt top. If you just want the Gibson logo on it, save up a bit more and look around good deals can be found out there.

Get the EPI. Or save up a biiiiiiiiit more for a brand new Studio. The Epi is heavy as hell and if you change the pups the only thing missing is the Gibson logo.
If you're inclined for a new EPI go for the EPI. Hope this helped.

I like the stock pickups. They're pretty decent. Here's a clip of me playing some country with it: YouTube - Guitar Rag take 2

Get a Studio, better wood, electronics, playability, and......RESALE.
Are you opposed to eBay guitars? I have had very good luck scoring great deals there. Ask questions, check feedback and look at the Paypal coverage. Check your pm's.........

Personally, I'd go for the Gibson. You can probably find one for less than $750. Paint is easy to touch up and pickup covers can be replaced or removed.

Re: 1999 Les Paul Studio Vs. Epiphone L.Paul Custom Zakk Wylde Bullseye(new)
Thanks for all the answers.. i spoke the seller again, he pull down the price to 600$, but i 'll not buy that Studio Les Paul. Right now i am still looking for a Studio Les Paul better condition(Paint&body). I'm living in Canada (Toronto), and unfortunately most E-bay deals either not shipping to Canada at all, or with shipment charges, and taxes price go up almost same with a brand new ones(Which is 1375$ in Canada, with H.S.C,included taxes).I dunno may be I'm planing trip to U.S, may be I'll buy when I'm in states. P.S:Buy $ i mean Canadian dollar. Actually Canadian and U.S almost same now. |

Re: 1999 Les Paul Studio Vs. Epiphone L.Paul Custom Zakk Wylde Bullseye(new)
I had a Gibson ZW Bullseye (see my avatar) with Zakk's autograph on the back of the headstock (I got his autograph at an Ozzfest gig in 2003). That thing was HEAVY. I had to add pads to the strap! The neck was twisting and never stayed in tune. I traded it straight up for a Gibson Black Beauty which is actually lighter. One of the best guitar decisions I've ever made. I'm staying away from signature guitars from now on because I think they're tougher to modify and stamp your personality on.
I added the ZW EMG 81/85 set to my first guitar -- a $400 Jackson Dinky. Those pickups made my Jackson sound every bit as good as the Gibson ZW. |

Re: 1999 Les Paul Studio Vs. Epiphone L.Paul Custom Zakk Wylde Bullseye(new)
That Epi Prophesy is a rippin' piece. Loud, heavy and a pretty nasty sound. If that's what you are looking for, it is a nice instrument but it seemed like that is all it will do well. I'm not an expert, but that's how it seemed to me. I also feel like the controls are limited. Get the Studio.

If I were a fan of Zakk type of music, I'd get a Epi Zakk instead of Studio.

I'm guessing it's more then just that.
The wood, binding, good fret job.......

If your able to play both I would. Based on quality of the guitar I like a Gibson studio over the epiphone ZW.
