help with software amp modellers

Hi,
I have been using software amp modellers lately, those being amplitube and Guitar Rig 3 (demos). Ilike them and would like to try them out further. I plug my guitar into the mic-in of my laptop, run the software, and get output through the standard headphone-out.

I want to know how to connect foot-controllers to control the stomps boxes (wah etc). I need something like a simple expression pedal, which connects to my laptop through a USB port. And when I move the expression pedal, it should send signals to the software to produce the appropriate "expression" effect in the software effect, say a wah-pedal movement.

Users of Guitar Rig (Kontrol edition) have a footcontroller that comes with software package, that does the same thing.
Has anyone of you been using such a thing, if yes let me know what foot-controller to buy and how to configure and use it.

I dont think these 2 products will work with standard midi controllers like the ART (Yea Im probably showing my age). If your not going to use them live and its strictly for recording, why not automate? Thats what I do. Arm the track to record automation, and drag the mouse in GR3 over whatever it is you wanna automate and your done.
