Re: Best pawn shop find?

I'm going to be surprised if 27Sauce gets topped on this one. Your capital appreciation from the moment you handed him the cash to the moment you got your receipt would impress Warren Buffet. I've always had my eye out for a bargain on an original LP jr. of similar vintage. I suspect I'll have the eye out for a while.

Speaking of 70's iconic guitars, I seem to remember a photo of Page playing a tobacco sunburst, single cut away LP junior somewhere, long ago.

I like that SG and amps you got. I bet those P90s are to die for.

Was the neck on the 62 SG broken. If not, I saw a 63' version of your guitar (SG special) appraised for $6,000.00 last night on antiques road show (Montana).

They thought it was a Chinese fake, the shop's guitar "expert" said there is no such thing as a hollow Les Paul!

Re: Best pawn shop find?

My best pawn shop find was a Gibson ES 333 for $400 in 2007. The so called expert thought it was an epiphone made to look like a Gibson. I gave it to my Dad for fathers day that year and he was like a kid in the candy store. Growing up he used to talk about an old ES 335 he had but had to sell when we got into some tight times when I was a kid. The deal was awesome to boot! I was also lucky once and bought a Les Paul Studio DC for $450 at an old pawn shop in Oklahoma when I was traveling back to Florida, wife let me have it for the next 18 hours too, but man that guitar played great.

Re: Best pawn shop find?

A while back the local pawn shop had a es-125. Thing is they wanted twice what it was worth. I thought about going back there to haggle them all the way down but it was gone.

It was the only guitar there that I liked. All their others were overpriced junk.

Yeah, they had it out for $2400 initially, with 1600 invested in it. Once they found out it was fake, they took out as much cost as they could and put it in the other items that were in the pawn, which included an '03 Standard, and some other not so expensive gear. So they were left with $800, knowing they would take a loss eventually. I didn't know this till later. I offered $1000, and they countered with $800. They just wanted to get out of it, and thought they were ripping me off, and thought I would try to bring it back, once I found out it was fake. I probably could have gotten it for less. But yeah, somebody did their homework when they took it in, paying $1600.

I got out of there so fast... Later that night I looked in the case and all of the case candy and receipt were in the case! They never looked!

The only thing Ive ever bought from a Pawn shop was my old Epiphone Explorer Goth for 100. Fixed it up and flipped it on eBay for a profit.
