Gibson Les Paul Standard 50's neck or Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded 50's neck
Hey! For a long time know I have been searching for a new guitar, and after a while I have found two guitars that I want to buy; Gibson Les Paul Standard (on the guitar I red it was a R9, but when I found it on their homesite it didn't stand anything about that) 50's neck and a Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded 50's neck. I tried both of the guitars yesterday on a Marshall amp, and I'm not sure what guitar I like most of them.
I do need some help so I can decide me for what guitar I want to buy so I got a question: Do someone know some positively or negatively sides about the guitars? Another guitar I want a lot is a Gibson Les Paul Custom, but its way to expensive for me (if someone finds any cheap Custom guitars on the web, feel free to post the link ). Thanks, Toften (sorry for my bad english).

Re: Gibson Les Paul Standard 50's neck or Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded 50's neck
The neck shape, as far as I know, is the same on the regular Standard and the Faded Standard but I'm not sure if the R9 have the same shape. I prefer the smooth feeling of the Standard Faded (due to the light satin finish on it). It's not as "sticky" as the regular glossy finish.

for some reason, i always wanted a guitar with the faded finish on the neck, possibly because its easier to for me? or is it just a fetish? As for the custom if you look around enough on ebay you'll eventually find one around 1800-2000 in decent condition, thats how i found mine.

EDIT: Do someone know if 1986 is a good year for gibson custom guitars? Just found a very, very cheap custom on a norwegian site.

Re: Gibson Les Paul Standard 50's neck or Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded 50's neck
There were certainly worse years than 1986 for sure. If the price is right, I say go for it. You might even get the Shaw pickups in it. Just be careful about fakes. There are plenty out there. If the price is too good to be true, it USUALLY is. You can confirm the guitar with Gibson if you can get the serial number first.
BTW, the faded standard and regular standard are almost identical except for the finish. You get burstbucker pros (uncovered on the faded) on both and the construction and hardware are identical. The faded should be a few hundred (at least) USD cheaper, and are considered by many to be one of the best deals among the Gibson offerings. A real Les Paul at a MORE reasonable price. |

I found that the custom goes for 14.000 kr (ca. $ 2.700) (link to the custom: finn.no - Norges største markedsplass.
