1994 Studio Lite
Hello guys, I've been lurking on this forum for awhile and now that I have a Les Paul thought I'd introduce my self. I've been wanting a Les Paul for over a year but finances wouldn't allow. I found this on CL yesterday for $650.00 and couldn't resist. I'm a smaller guy so the light wieght and slim taper neck are perfect for me. I also favor ebony fretboards so this works out perfect. This has a nice two piece top and one piece back. I have tried to find as much info about this model as I can online but I can't seem to find what kind of finish was used on these. Does anybody know? I know this is far from some of the amazing flamed vintage and historic guitars shown on this forum, but untill I hit the lotto this is going to have to hold me!
Thanks, Rob ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: 1994 Studio Lite
Dude buy that ASAP ! Those are kinda getting rare and the finishes they had were pretty awesome, I've seen em in Cherry Sunburst and the Vintage Sunburst like you have in that pic. But they also made em in Blue, Wine Red, Mahogany Brown and I think Amber finish. But 650 for one of those is a very good price ! I had a chance to get 2 for 1400 (vintage sunburst and Amber) but I got a LP Classic Plus instead.

Re: 1994 Studio Lite
Thanks for the fast reply Geddy. I did buy it yesterday, it plays so great. My question about the finish wasn't about the colors available though. I was wondering if what is on top of the sunburst is nitro, laquer, poly or something else I don't know about.

Re: 1994 Studio Lite
Happy new guitar day! I'm quite the fan of my own Studio Lite.
With the exception of the briefly lived SL (sans laquer) series, pretty much any Gibson you get is going to have a nitro finish.

Re: 1994 Studio Lite
Awesome!
I love mine so much that I've been on the lookout for another one for a couple of years now. They are VERY rare on the ground out here so I may have to snag one from the US. Yes they did make an Amber one as per below! Mine is a '91 with the 3 pc body.

Re: 1994 Studio Lite
there's a '95 or '96 blue studio lite in one of my local shops.. think it's on the wall for 600 or 650... but it is a little rough and has had a neck repair, so i feel that its a little overpriced.. kinda bums me out a little. a few years ago, my father in law knew the last guy who owned it and he was selling it for $550, prob could have gotten it for $500, and my father in law said he would buy it and let me pay him back, but i didn't like the idea of it having a repaired headstock...probably should've taken him up on the offer..

Re: 1994 Studio Lite
Anyone else ever come across those Studio Lite M-IIIs ? Ive seen em in blue mostly and maybe Amber. It has a single coil in the middle and has a 5 way Strat style switch. I wonder how good they sound ?

Re: 1994 Studio Lite
I love the Studio Lites I really like yours I have never seen one that sunburst SWEET! I paid about the same price for my blue one 6 years ago and it is my favorite guitar! I would like to know more about it, it is not chambered or relieved but a different wood inside between the maple and mahogany or something like that, anyone know?

Re: 1994 Studio Lite
I have that exact guitar, though it's a '93. I just swapped out the plastics for cream and the hardware for nickel a couple of months ago, but it's just awesome. I'll post some pics soon. You should totally jump on that.

Re: 1994 Studio Lite
Hey Robert, I have had this guitar all of one day and when I looked at it this morning I thought, hmm cream pickup rings and nickel hardware would make it perfect! Funny I checked this post and you just mentioned that. Please do post your pics so I can see what it will look like. Also I am not usually a guitar tinkerer, what is a good online place to buy these parts?

Re: 1994 Studio Lite
You know, I'm not a pickguard kinda guy, but that transblue Studio Lite with the Custom pickguard is sexy. I may have to consider that for my own, even though mine has chrome hardware and zebra/double black pups.

Re: 1994 Studio Lite
Thanks for pics Joe your guitars look so nice!
Last night I noticed the neck pickup is much quieter than the bridge. I adjusted the neck up and bridge down, but the difference is pretty great. I used my meter and the neck is reading right around 9 ohms and the bridge about 15. Both look stock. Does anyopne know what the values for these should be? I have some gold classic '57s that are a few years old I might drop in.. Thanks all for chiming in so nicely on my first real post! Best Rob |
