Buy Gibson 2008 Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar online at Musician's Friend
Don't know if this has been posted yet, but it looks like Gibson is doing more. The new price is lower and it's advertised as being plek'd, lets see how that goes. PLUS those huge strap buttons, and I'd like to know what's going on with that input?! are guitarists going to XLR? that thing is a bit strange lol. |

Re: 2008
Wow!! I can tell you that the neck profile is anything like a asymmetrical Warmoth neck that I have on a strat then I'm really going to like this a lot. I love lp's but there are certain things that I have tried and liked on other guitars and wished Gibson would provide it for the customer. Looks like they are starting to do that.
Talk about long neck tenon. I guess you guys with the typical long tenon are sh*t out of luck . I can here the debate now over this one already.

Re: 2008
It looks like these new asymmetrical necks might be nice to check out when they start arriving in the stores!
![]() I didn't see anything about XLR though JCM223? Though I do like the idea of having a "locking input" to protect against accidentally yanking my cord out, and it does help with the wear it puts on your finish wrapping your cord around your strap, pretty cool idea! ![]() I didn't really care for those gigantic strap buttons though. I have Dunlop strap locks on my LPC and they don't look nearly as huge as the strap locks on the new 2008. Catch a decent breeze and you might catch some air!

Re: 2008
The locking jack sounds like a good idea. Wish I had one for my Epiphone.

Re: 2008
Neutrik Locking Jack, it has a tab that closes onto your cable when you put it in. You push the red tab to release your cable.
Had one on my Red GT. So no more stepping on your cable and pulling it out... instead you eff up your cable or if you/someone is holding your guitar w/o a strap and someone trips over the cable, you can get that patented Gibson broken headstock sooner. |

Re: 2008
I was glad to read they are keeping the Burstbuckers! However I don't know what to make of the neck? Does this mean then you no longer have a choice of a 50's or 60's style. It was nice to have a choice.
This leads me to my next concern. Is this just a means to be more hands off approach in the production of them, as they move to a more machine base build. Then will this help or hinder the quality control so many seemed concerned with now. I really like they have included the Dunlops as standard now. I have swapped them in on all of mine. |
