Doh I put my strings on the wrong way!! does it matter?
I got some new Gibson vintage reissue strings and stupidly put the D,G,B,E on the wrong way! can you believe it? lol
The guitar seems to be in tune fine and plays lovely, I also tried a top wrap. Im very happy with these strings they sound great. So would I need to put them on again? im afraid i will snap em, and i will need to order them again off the web. I know it was stupid but I was tired. ![]() What I mean by the wrong way is, they are strung from the outsides of the posts not the inside, by the way. Yes I am a tit. |

It doesn't matter which way you wind them. You should be cool.

Ya, no matter. I think everyone's wound a string wrong at least once...more than that in my case...
![]() Play it as is...no worries! BB

Wrong strings in the wrong place? I'd fix it.

Re: Doh I put my strings on the wrong way!! does it matter?
I sure am glad to learn I'm not the only person who has wound the strings the wrong way on the posts! :-) I've done it many times. I usually wind up changing them, not because there's any inherent problem with it, but because seeing them, and having to remember to reverse when I'm tuning up, is embarassing. :-) But I can't imagine it presents any real problem.

It'll be fine. Just wrap them around the right way the next time you need a string change.

Re: Doh I put my strings on the wrong way!! does it matter?
I've learned a long time ago not to get stoned before I change my strings.
I have: -wound them backwards -put the D where the A goes -wound a string on the wrong tuner, and trimmed it, so now it won't reach the correct tuner. -snapped the B or E when stretching -changed only 5, forgot to do the 6th -poked myself with string end, drew blood. -probably a few other screw-ups I can't remember |

When you're a burnout like me... Sometimes I can't remember which way they go! I have 15 guitars!

Don't sweat it Jimbo! If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If your gee-tar plays and sounds fine, then rock on.One of my guitars I currently play I put the G string on backwards, and the guitar plays and sounds fine.... of course, on my new Les Paul BFG, which does have all the strings put on correctly, the G string never stays in tune...
