Heavier Gauge Strings
I'm sure this type of question has been asked a million times before so I apologise in advance.
I have a 2010 Gibson Les Paul Junior and I have been playing with 10's on it since I bought it. I want to change the strings to 11's or even 12's. Should I get my guitar set up professionally for this kind of change ? Will the slots on the nut accomodate this change ?

Re: Heavier Gauge Strings
I'm pretty sure the slots arent going to be wide enough and I'd prefer not to go adjusting the truss rod myself. Guess I'll look at getting it setup at my local shop.
On that topic, I've heard replacing the nut with a bone one will help the guitar stay in tune better is that right ?

Re: Heavier Gauge Strings
So I had my guitar set up with 11's and it plays like a dream.

Re: Heavier Gauge Strings
You will need the slots sorting! I went up to 11s on both my LPs, and I have never looked back. I would advise a professional set-up - I would never be able to do as good a job as my local tech/luthier, and it's not expensive.
