Stupid pick guard question

Just wondering if it could ruin the finish in the nitro by removing the pick guard? And will the hole in the body be ok to leave or should I fill it with something?

Thanks,
Chris

Re: Stupid pick guard question

With the guard off, the finish will fade evenly, so actually less harm, and more even.

Personally, I'd put the screws back in the holes, but they don't need to be filled, no.

A lot of folk simply put the screws that held the PG in place right back in to fill the holes. I don't know that removing the guard will ruin the nitro finish.

Aesthetically, though, lots of us think Les Pauls look buck naked without the pickguards unless they have unique tops.

The choice is yours.

Re: Stupid pick guard question

Thanks for the responses.. I will be pulling it off I don't have a really fancy finish but just like no guard better I have always been a strat and tele guy and am just use to the PG being flat I just can't seem to get use to the raised pick guard.

Re: Stupid pick guard question

Won't hurt a thing taking the PG off. I prefer to leave the holes alone. Over time they will accumulate mojo dust and make the screw tighter whenever you decide to put it back on.

If you are picky about your finish and ever rest your pinky against the body, make sure you keep your pinky nail clipped short. It will leave nicks in the finish where the PG was.

Yeah I dont think I am going to put the screws back in. No body but me will ever notice the holes.

Re: Stupid pick guard question

Holes wide open in my Yamaha Studio Lord...no idea where the pick guard may be, let alone the screws. =)
