all hail Mr. Jade Puget. of AFI.

i know you guys aren't into that kind of music as much... but this guy's got some way under appreciated skill.
and he plays Studios...
a white one and a black one, without the Pickguards.
they sound godly... he plays through a 59 Marshall Plexi

Re: Famous artists who play Les Paul Studios

I believe the 311 guitarist, or at least Nick Hexum uses studios. I've seen some photos of 'em with one live over the last couple years. Also, when I was shopping around for L.P.'s on ebay, I saw Nick (actually him) selling his "Studio" on ebay. He claimed it was used on tour.... sounds con'ish... but it was actually him. His ebay profile was under his name and he had pictures of himself holding it and on stage w/ it......

So I guess you could add Nick / 311 to the short list? More recent pictures show them with L.P. customs.

I own a standard but have played a good bit of Studios and in my opinion, most of the sarcasm towards them when compared to Standards & Customs stems from either presentation shortcomings, uppity elitist self knob buffing, or their half the cost price tag...... but over all, I think they play and sound great. Some I've played even had smoother action than common Standard.

Re: Famous artists who play Les Paul Studios

Trent Reznor played Studios on Nine Inch Nails' "With Teeth" tour right before he switched to the Dean Evo Noir. I guess the Standards were just to expensive for him to be destroying on stage like he did on the "Spiral" tour.

This one should would take the cake, if I had an image!

Mr Les Paul himself... Well, in the video he's playing his 'Les Paul Recording', but there's a nice wine red studio on a stand in the background... who else would own it ?

somebody find this video !

Steve Clark actually played a Gibson XR-1, which was a bit of a precursor to a Studio.

Fueled by Ramen is a terrible indie label that makes nothing but poppy junk, like Panic at the Disco, Fall Out Boy, and other shit bands that 14 year old girls praise.

They haven't had a good band since Days Away, and sadly they broke up. But cool thing about that is some members of that band are touring to support Anthony Green and his solo stuff, which is really, really good stuff.

If you want a GOOD record label with good bands, check out Equal Vision, Suicide Squeeze, Robotic Empire, Level-Plane, etc, etc.

Thanks I'll check em out. I am a fan of the "Take This To Your Grave" album and about half of the second one. everything they've put out since sux. starting with dance dance. I am talking about the fueled by ramen of about 04' when "Ohio is for lovers" was a new song/video. haven't really checked em' out in awhile. the 14 year old girl thing doesn't matter too much to me.
I'm all about the music , never the scene

Re: Famous artists who play Les Paul Studios

Mike Turner - Our Lady Peace and Fairground

I used to be the type that had to have the best type..the custom the whatever. I have also played many les pauls...standards and customs and a 68 gold top that my roommate owns. None of them felt as good as my platinum Studio. The studio comes with the same pickups as the custom ( per the Gibson website) and its what....maybe a 1/4" thinner. To me its not an entry level guitar....just a different version. An entry level guitar is the epiphone Les Paul special II.

I was actually talking gear with the above mentioned Mike Turner once and at the end he is like "remember, its not the equipment that makes the music" or something like that.

aaaaaand I havent been in a battle for a while but I have to say something about the Fueled by Ramen bashing. There are some mirror clones on there but there is NOTHING wrong with a good pop rock band. I think Panic! at the Disco is a great band, if you haven't sat down and listened to their first album and really listened you need to. if you don't "get" it then I dont see how you can say you get Zepplin. Fall out boy is another good band I think. If you can get passed yourself and hear all the good ideas they have in a lot of their songs you would probably like them more too. I am a song writer in an original band and I do this for a living so maybe I DO hear things differently than other people. my saxophone teacher in college told me that once I go down this route I will never be able to listen to music for entertainment again. He was partially correct, I can still separate it but I do analyze everything.

Also being from Atlanta GA, I'm so tired of the classic rock being pushed down my throat. I know I know, everyone loves the old stuff. I'm personally tired of hearing it. I respect all of those guys and I know I am influenced by them one way or another but I for one like to hear something new. haha, I actually don't like to listen to much before 1990. And also the metal/screamo bands are here by the thousands. I have good friends in a lot of these bands but the close mindedness drives me nuts. Same with the classic rock guys, so close minded...if Page or Hendrix didnt do it why should anyone else! haha.

Im not trying to offend anyone. I am in a pop rock band, not like the ones above persay but I write it becasue its what I do and what I like, not because of who likes it ( I think I write to a universal crowd ). But There is nothing wrong with new music and new ideas.

happy 4th let the fire works begin

Re: Famous artists who play Les Paul Studios

Hey Hey...check this out!

I play a Studio because I wanna play it. There is no better guitar on earth than my own. If you ask me, Ill tell ya.

I dont care if Johnny Nails Ramones Madonna Slash Halen plays the same one or not. My Vintage Mahogany has awesome build quality, great action, wonderful tone, and didnt cost me one of my kidneys to buy. I even had enough money left to go buy ANOTHER GIBSON *Special* as a back up just-in-case the unthinkable happens.

Studios are on a short list of Gibsons best values for the dollar.
You want a good reason to buy a Studio? Go play one.

You boys go have some fun. Im off to the studio to play my Studio.
If all goes well, Im comin back youtubed.

yah jade puget is wayyyy underrated as a guitar player. i'm not so much into their newer emo/glam/electronica thing, but their older stuff was great.

Anywho, before i got my SG (or paul for that matter) i used to borrow a black studio from a friend for shows and was really really impressed with it. I just cant get over how plain they look but they play really well.

Re: Famous artists who play Les Paul Studios

First, let me preface this by saying my younger brother is an intertainment lawyer that represents songwriters and artists in Nashville, so he is having some influence on what I'm listening to lately...

Having said that, I have noticed that more and more of the players in the "younger" country music bands are using Les Pauls. I watch some of the country music video channels and have seen several LP Studios show up in videos. It's interesting how the younger country players are beginning to show a preference for Gibson LPs over Fender Telecasters and Strats. There also seems to be a more pronounced southern blues rock influence in the music from these acts. If you can bring yourself to watch some of the country channels, it won't take long til you see a few LPs (including an assortment of Studios)...

I agree. I currently own a Studio along with my two Customs. I also owned a beautiful wine red Studio. I think Studios sound incredible and I appreciate the simple styling as much as I appreciate Customs and Standards. The LP Studio is a simple, no frills, great sounding guitar. My Studio is basic black with a floyd trem and it kicks ass.
