electronics replacement

My Paul will be shipped tomarrow with a landing date of Wed at my house.

I have been asking about this and that on another site and the idea of replacing the pots and wiring after the pickups is a great mod. Proclaiming to open up the sound of the guitar and allowing full use of the volume and tone pots.

While I'll be honest with you I'm after a wide open heavey tone with this guitar, but I might as well get all I can get out of her.

With her color she would look good with a pair of EMG's... HAHAHA!!!! That is so crazy to say as I'm a total purest passive tone {single coil} fan, but I'm going after the one thing I don't have. You guys know. That Les Paul crunch.
Just guessing the stock pickups will be plenty compaired to my single coils I have.

So, back on topic. Do you guys replace your Pots, caps, and resistors in your Pauls????

Re: electronics replacement

Some do and some don't. I would play the guitar as is for awhile, before changing anything. Play it through your rig, change settings. Who knows you might not have to change a thing.

+1 Make friends with it first.

I did end up popping the RS vintage kit in. And unpotted SD 59s. You can really hear the wood.

Re: electronics replacement

I have RS vintage kits in 4 of my guitars, and have the Luxe BumbleBee repros in my Les Pauls.

Ok, I have a serious problem. My LP has more nobs than my amp.

Other guys with RS kits. These are the kits I was recommended.

Re: electronics replacement

I went with the Dr Vintage kit for my R8. With the knobs wide open, it's all the same. the guitar has a much more useful range now.

Re: electronics replacement

As mentioned by BB, RS GuitarWorks. Great people and customer service. If you have questions give them a call. Talk to Roy or Billy and they will help you out. They prices are pretty good but like I said, their customer sevice is fantastic.
