Re: Gibson Bfg
You asked and scored? Your mom is buying you a sixth guitar?
Sorry, but this makes me sick. Rich, yuppy kids getting Gibsons from their parents.

Re: Gibson Bfg
hey tim, do you think jesse on the other forum is a rich, yuppy kid? he's 19 lives his parents, and has mulitple jcm heads and cabs, a LP Std, a Studio and a freakin' eds-1275! and now theyre buying him an R8...
just because someone can afford to buy their kid a Gibson doesnt make them a snob or anything. i had 5 guitars when i was a frshman in college...i paid for all but one. I worked my ass off to get them, too. Mommy didnt buy me any of them just because. maybe this kid just graduated from highschool and this was his gift. maybe he just got accepted into Harvard on scholarship. who knows without asking? and for that matter what about rich, yuppy adults who just constantly take pictures of their Custom Shops and post them on multiple forums? welcome to the forum Ryan. i would go with the BFG in bullionburst if given the choice. for the cheaper finishes, the red is pretty cool.

Nothing wrong with a 19 year old living at home in my eyes, especially when they're in college or university. I'll never accept another guitar as a gift...did that once, never again! My fiancé bought me a SG last X-mas. At first, I was happier than a dick in a ****. But I didn't appreciate the guitar because I didn't earn it. I sold it...with her permission, of course, because I never played it. She was alright with me selling it, as long as we didn't lose any money...which we didn't. I kept the guitar for six months and lost $10. Put the money into our joint account and have a guitar fund going with my money only! Quote:
![]() I've given up on LPF, I think. For the record, I'm not a yuppy. I bust my ass every day. Just so happens that I'm paid well for what I do. Not only that, but I don't have kids, don't drink, smoke or do drugs anymore. I don't go out to expensive restaurants, don't drive a flashy car. I have one expensive hobby that I indulge myself with...and that's music. Quote:
I'd go with bullionburst or black, myself. Some people are rich, some are poor and some are somewhere in the middle. There's nothing wrong with being where you are or who you are. But when kids come out and say mommy is buying me this or daddy is buying me that...it strikes a nerve, I can't help it. If mommy is buying you an axe, it should be a $100 - $500 guitar.

Re: Gibson Bfg
As I believe the young people put it: "D000000ooood!" :-) Great luck! The red is cool, the yellow is cool ... BFGs have a really funky look--great punk or blues guitar! We need to see a picture when you get it!

Re: Gibson Bfg
Good luck to him!!.....Times change, as I have said before I started on a £99 satellite Strat copy with no amp for 2 years. so its good to know that these guys are lucky to have the good stuff straight away.
In saying that, there is nothing like the feel of a Guitar that you have worked hard for! Bye-the-way Go for the Black BFG, looks real good (Mate has one).

Re: Gibson Bfg
I like the black BFG, the red is pretty bad ass to, there isn't anything wrong with buying your kids a nice guitar my Father once told me that " I think its your role as a parent to make your child's life easier then yours was because it shows you made it somewhere, but never give them anything they don't appreciate." I think thats some true words of wisdom.

Re: Gibson Bfg
congrats, dude. i think the reason some people have a problem with parents buying their kids guitars is that, like me, my parents cant afford to do that.
i work 5 days a week in the summer, and i have to help my parents out sometimes. mostly because my sister is going to a college thats 48k a year. its not that my parents dont work hard, far from it, really. Thats just how it is. I dont have any kind of grudge, but i can see why some people do. haha, ironically i have an lp-100 and have been working forever trying to get a les paul standard. Im going to have one by the end of the summer though, praise God. |

Re: Gibson Bfg
I come from a blue collar home. We did without for years and never asked for anything. My sister and me were good kids. For my eight grade graduation, my parents bought me a 1963 Reverse Firebird V. Must have been a month's salary for my Dad. We were far from snobs. You never know all of the circumstances to someone's story.

Re: Gibson Bfg
Obviously the young buck knows what he's looking for when he asked for a new guitar! Smart move on his part!
Some parents can afford to give their kids the best of the best, some can't. My woman hands her daughter (only child) anything she asks for, and then gets treated like shit in the process! Mom keeps right on handing it over anyway. Daughter falls asleep behind the wheel after mom told her not to drive back to college (7 hour drive) at such a late hour, kid crashes the car, mom buys her a brand new car, then drives the new car 7 hours to the brat, who wanted it right then and there even though she was coming home in 4 days!! Me, I had to work for everything I ever had but for one guitar that my mom bought for me for graduating... and you know what, that 1980 Yamaha FG-312 is still sitting by my side! It's not worth much more than it was when new in 1980, but it is priceless to me! Live and let live.

Re: Gibson Bfg
If i were getting the BFG it would definitely be black. i do like all of the colors though. Red would be my 2nd choice.
ultimiately this is your decision. you were thinking red for a reason, you like it. i wouldn't make my decision based on other peoples personal prefences. enjoy whichever one you get! |

Re: Gibson Bfg
Well, my son is only 2 1/2 and he's about ready to get $1000 Yamaha eletronic drum set. I know I will put it to good use also but really it's for him. He plays the set I bought for my wife and all the people who see him play in Guitar Center are blown away.
If he decides to play guitar. I think I'll buy him what ever he wants to protect the good stuff laying around the house untill he shows me that he will respect them. At the same time, I will refuse to buy him over and over again several guitars of lesser quality becuase he lacks respect to play the good ones we already own. |

Also, (sorry if its off topic) ive been looking for an iPhone so far, and I want to sell some things in order to get it. I have a pair of sunglasses that were from my grandparent, I think the model is Ray Ban Wayfarer. He bought them originally in 1951. Do you know if this sunglasses are worth ´´lots´´ of money? or they are worth shit? (i dont think ray bans are like les pauls, but who knows)

Re: Gibson Bfg
How many 2 1/2yr old kids do you see playing drums?
I'm telling you and not kidding. He grabs the sticks, wiggles his way on the thrown, and will play without anyone asking him. He asks to go to Guitar Center to play the eltronic drums. Once we get there. He asks for the demo sticks on his own and always gets them. People are blown away by his playing. Kids three times his size get shy and walk away. Natural born drummer at 6 moths :![]() His one year birthday present a Remo Kids floor tom :![]() At a little over a year and 4months :![]() ![]() Sorry I don't have any new picture in a small file size to post of him playing drums and I don't have time to size, but here he is rocking some vocals through the small in house PA. ![]() ![]() I think $1000 Yahama set is right up his alley. They can be set up to his size and can be as quiet or as loud as I want them to be. Not to mention the idea that he will learn on electronics verse acoustic. Which is a plus, but I won't get into why as this is a guitar forum. Sorry guys he asked.

Re: Gibson Bfg
.. but to answer the ORIGINAL posters question... Hey, gotta get whichever guitar/color speaks to you. You can't get a guitar based on what everybody else, they ain't playing it!
And for the record, I was in the same position as you a while back. Like a previous poster said, you really can't go wrong with any of them, they freakin ROCK! My decision? I went with the black one..

Re: Gibson Bfg
I hated the red. Took a sander to the whole body and now it's smooth and natural-with tung oil. The only evidence of the salmon is when I pull a pickup. Got it used though, so it's definitely my project guitar.

Re: Gibson Bfg
Yeah, I am overdue. I promised clips a while back as well. The wife works this weekend and soccer season is over, so I wont be burning fuel driving the kids all over the greater chi-town area. I suck at guitar pics, but I'll give it a try.
