Sold a Gibson - Bought a Gibson.....
I loved looking at my SG Classic but sometimes I had a hard time keeping it in tune. Have you ever struggled with a guitar where you couldn't get confident with it? It was that kind of thing. Great guitar but problematic for me. I'm sure it was just me.
Gone to a nice guy in Canada..... ![]() Incoming.....one of the Les Paul Studio 50's Tribute guitars in basic black.... ![]() You can't get them at retail anymore. You have to buy from the guys who bought four of them when they were made and now they're flipping them to make $200 or so but I think I found an equitable deal. I really want a black Les Paul and I like P90's so this is it. It was affordable (as Les pauls go) and it appeals to me. Sold the SG and a few pedals and broke even on the purchase. This is one of my favorite guitar albums...... ![]() Black Les Pauls of any variety always remind me of this album. Oh well. One guitar out & one guitar in! New one gets here Monday. It's gonna be a long weekend. ![]() John |

That LP is sweet looking and I'm sure it plays like a dream. I like the cream trim - is that in the knobs too, or is that gold?

Re: Sold a Gibson - Bought a Gibson.....
Knobs are cream and silver.
It will be here Monday. The waiting is crazy. They sold for $999 when they were new. The Goldtops are fetching about $1200-$1300 from people who are flipping them used on eBay. The Honey Bursts are getting $1250 on eBay. Black ones go for $1000-$1100. I found mine used on Amazon for $1000 with $18 shipping. The Cherry Bursts are only getting $900 and sometimes less. It's weird watching people flip them on eBay "as new with warranty card". The warranty card is useless without the new dealer sales slip in your name. I'm still happy. |

Re: Sold a Gibson - Bought a Gibson.....
Got a Honeyburst, I like very much. I'd easily prefer it to a Standard, or such. I'm just sayin'. May not be to everyone's taste, but I'm a believer.
I can't recall, do the black ones have the goofy fake ware on them? The white ones do, and I know there was one more, presumably the black. I dig the worn look and all, but that fake finish ware seems kinda goofy to me. Still, if it plays, it plays... Oh, and another IMO, the worn cherry burst looks silly too. That burst just doesn't seem right without a full finish. Goldtop was nice though. I was prepared to 'settle' for one if I couldn't get the Honeyburst. Fortunately, fortune smiled on me. I got exactly the one I wanted. Enjoy.

Re: Sold a Gibson - Bought a Gibson.....
I've got an ebony 50s tribute and I love it! Everyone who has seen it to date their first reaction is always 'that is a nice guitar'. When I first got it I was on my lunch break and was sitting in a park just playing it unplugged. Some tourist came in and snapped a photo a of me :S That's how great they look

Onioner,
The black ones have the fake wear. I don't mind the faded stain. As long as it's not fake relic work. I dislike fake relic dents and scrapes. |

Re: Sold a Gibson - Bought a Gibson.....
I have found that a few stores are getting them in and if you want to make enough calls you can probably get one for retail. I am curious how the price will hold up once the whole "can't find one" craze is over.
They are great looking guitars. I would like to try one out but that probably won't happen.

Re: Sold a Gibson - Bought a Gibson.....
Some Guitar Centers are still getting them in. GC is a big client and I think they made sure to get some. I heard of a few people walking into one and buying one of these.

I like the Black Les Pauls but I am also a Neil Young fan. Congrats on your deal and a mighty fine looking Tribute.

Re: Sold a Gibson - Bought a Gibson.....
Mine came from GC a couple months ago. I paid $760. Last I checked, they still had a cherry burst. Shame. If it was black or gold, I'd probably find a way to buy it as well. Even as it is, I've been tempted. I don't really need to be messin' around like that though. Still, if you're in the SF bay area, and you like the burst...

Re: Sold a Gibson - Bought a Gibson.....
I confess I paid a just over a grand for my gold top tribute.
![]() Pay more than retail - sheesh I was ready to lock myself up but I played it and the neck was my type, very similar to my standard and supreme so I bit. Might just "mate" up a bigsby. Here's a pic Cheers.

re: Studio 50's Tributes - I was in All Music Inc. in Plainview Long Island over the holidays - they had three Tributes on the rack - two Honeyburst and a Black. $849.
Great store BTW. |

Re: Sold a Gibson - Bought a Gibson.....
I got one of the first black ones they made, prior to the flood.
I hate the finish, but I LOVE the guitar. Best Gibson USA guitar I've owned. Music just pours out of it. |
