How does Buzz sound happen, and how to fix them

Are they only common in vintage or used beat up guitars ?
Is this a serious problem ?

What type of buzz do you mean? String vs fret buzz? Noise amp-buzz? Need more info.

Low E, and A string seems to "shake" too much more than the rest of the strings making too much noise, therefore, the sound is not clean. When I play other guitars with a same amp, the sound is MUCH more clean.

Also, when you strum the each strings, it seems to make a sound as if I am tuning a guitar just a bid.

Sounds like you need to do/get a set-up. Check the neck relief, and adjust the string heights so the strings don't buzz against the frets. If it is not string vs fret, could be the nut and/or saddles, PUP height etc.

You can likely tell eventually by playing open, and fretting at different...frets, and determine where (& when) the buzz is coming from. I have a 336 that buzzed on the high strings...it turned out to be the bridge vibrating against the studs and not the strings at all.

I am not sure where the buz is coming from, but may be the string is set too low and hitting the fret. I can not see it, but compare to other guitars, this one is set low making it easier to play in some ways. When I strum the each string without an amp, none made the buzzing sound. Open strum, the same, no buzz.

This is possible.

The neck could be too flat or slightly backbowed.

There could be a high fret in there.

If you've never had it set up, now might be the time to do that.

I am kinda having the same issue on my ES-335, is setting up your Axe something that you can learn or is it best to take to someone? If the later, can any guitarshop do a good job or how to find someone that good?

I mean Guitar Center is having a 50% off setups this month.... What do you think?

Re: How does Buzz sound happen, and how to fix them

This book is good:

Amazon.com: Guitar Player Repair Guide: How to Set Up, Maintain, and Repair Electrics and Acoustics Second Edition (9780879302917): Dan Erlewine: Books Amazon.com: Guitar Player Repair Guide: How to Set Up, Maintain, and Repair Electrics and Acoustics Second Edition (9780879302917): Dan Erlewine: Books

For anything major (fret work, etc) or setups on my vintage guitars, I go to a local luthier.

And... no way I'd take a guitar to GC for a setup unless I know that there was a good guy who worked there, and was guaranteed that he'd work on it.

Take it to a pro, there's a lot less chance of it ending up with tears. Don't go somewhere because they have a 50% off sale - the guy that I go to is more expensive than most but is over whelmed with work to the extent that you have to make an appointment to bring your guitar in, then leave it with him for a week. The outcome is that you end up with a guitar that plays to it's potential. I'd rather pay more & get the best.

Cool thanks for the feedback, where do I look for this type of guy in Minneapolis?

Re: How does Buzz sound happen, and how to fix them

Basic set-ups are pretty easy...and there are instructions/specs for Gibson all over the net. Of course if you are not comfortable fro some reason, then get a pro, but otherwise it is not a big deal. Just need some simple tools.

You check measurements, adjust the truss rod nut, change bridge height, maybe smooth some saddles or nut slots if required. Unless you need fret leveling or more serious nut work, nothing in there a normal person couldn't handle. Numerous builders have great set-up guides that tell you what you need and how to go 1 step at a time.

Great, thanks, and I am in Florida (Tampa Bay area), where do I find a pro like that? We do have a Guitar Center, and he is really nice, sure knows a lot more about guitar than I, (did not know they were having 50% off).
