Real or fake?
Hello friernds,
I am about to buy a Gibson Les Paul Studio in Ebony Black and I am not sure if it is a real Gibson or a fake one. The seller send me some pictures of the guitar (please see attached copies). Please advise if this is a real Gibson or not, because at the first sight I am not convinced. |

Re: Real or fake?
We can't see the pics, you are trying to link to pics in your gmail account - which won't work. You'll have to put the pics on a site like photobucket and link to them.

REAL OR FAKE boobies?
as for the Les Paul, Ledheadforlife is on that one, it's usually the high end Gibson's that are being faked, look's like a Gibson to me as well.

Re: Real or fake?
From my limited knowledge, its real...the serial # looks good, and that's usually the first thing I notice..

Re: Real or fake?
That means that you would proceed with buying the guitar?
The thing that makes me unsure about it is the little dot on the name on the headstock. It seems to "sit" a little more on the letter "G" than over the "i" and it is in a lower postion than on top of the "G" and "b" top position, if I compare it with the fotos on this site: Gibson Guitar Music News: How to Spot a Fake, Gibson Leads Industry Fight Against Counterfeit Goods |

Re: Real or fake?
![]() I've seen real ones like that before, and have read somewhere when to expect the I dot to be in that position. That doesn't make me an expert, though.

Re: Real or fake?
I wouldn't worry too much about the dot hitting the 'G' on the headstock...this is a photo of the '83 Studio Standard I've got coming and it has the same thing..and I'm pretty sure its real!

Re: Real or fake?
Sorry to drag this thread back up after two weeks but something's been bugging me all morning after talking to a friend of mine about his recently-discovered-to-be-a-fake Epi.
Why do they not fake the Studios but will fake the Epis? Seems to me the Studio would be a better target: No bling, binding, flamed tops, etc. Just a basis guitar. One would think it would be easier to produce a fake Studio and make more on the sale if it, no? |

Re: Real or fake?
They will fake the high end Epi's because most up and coming players would rather have the fancier top of the line Epiphone with all the bells and whistles rather than an old fashioned back to basics Gibson like the studio. And since their is so very little on the studio, that leaves the chinese absolutely no room for error when it comes to cloning them.

Re: Real or fake?
ya that's what happens when a 16 yo kid reads a few posts on the net, he's hitting up a lot of posts on here claiming fakes like he's been around awhile

Re: Real or fake?
You really ought to learn more about what you're talking about before you offer testimonials or advice. You might end up influencing someone who doesn't know any better. You've been spouting off about fake Gibsons being "just like the real thing" on your first few posts, and that's a poor start. I would strongly suggest that you read the numerous threads on spotting Chinese fakes, and learn about real Gibsons as well. That would greatly cut down the odds of looking foolish. There are several members here that are experts on this subject that have years invested in these matters. The smart thing to do is to research before you post.

Re: Real or fake?
I've seen PLENTY with logos like that, plus ones with no dot over the i, dot's in different places...it depends on the year and the model.
