rediscovered my LP via blackstar amp

I have a 01 LP standard. not a big fan of the pu. 490-498's anywho... I recently bought a Blackstar ht-60 stage amp and it has made this guitar SHINE! I love my ash tele and have played it nonstop for 2 yrs.. every show, practice and recording. Bought the amp .. played some different guitars through it and BAM! I played the les paul the whole show last friday.. I have finally found the sound in my head!

Re: rediscovered my LP via blackstar amp

yeah i think somebody on here once said

crap guitar + crap amp = crap tone
great guitar + crap amp = crap tone
crap guitar + great amp = great tone
great guitar + great amp = great tone.

at night i play through my little SS with headphones and by morning i'm itching to switch on the valve amp and really take it through it's paces. tone is a beautiful thing.

anyway would love to hear some sound samples if you got them.

I've got to wonder why certain people hate the 490/498 combo. I have those and 57's, and they sound fantastic. I'm sure they sound great on the Blackstar.

Re: rediscovered my LP via blackstar amp

I know how you feel, cause I felt the same when I have my gibby plug into my HT5.
I had a Bareknuckle pups before but recently change to the Burstbucker and it sound much more sweeter.
Glad I make the right choice.

Re: rediscovered my LP via blackstar amp

It feels great to be back on the les paul forum and thanks for all the comments. I own/have owned some great classic amps (twin reverb, super reverb) but the Blackstar has really brought to life the sounds I am looking for. Tone is subjective but It is working for me. I will try to post some clean, drive, and all out nasty sound clips.

Re: rediscovered my LP via blackstar amp

I tried out the HT range when they came out as I loved the Artisan range but they were a little too pricey for me. To my ears, the HT60 Stage was easily the one to go for. Not because of any volume requirements over the 20 and 40 watt versions but the lower wattage models sounded too compressed and 'metally' for me. The 60 watter had that extra 'space' or 'breathability' and just sounded so much more 'open' and natural to me.

Okay, I think that's enough poncey made up buzzwords ...

How would you say the Blackstar compares to a Marshall tone-wise? Those dudes are former Marshall engineers, so I would expect a certain degree of similarity. What is the advantage of going with a Blackstar over a Marshall?

I'm curious because I am looking at small wattage heads and am wondering how the HT5 compares to something like the Haze 15.

I have never owned/played through any "nice" marshall gear but I will say the cleans on the Blackstar are great and the gain channel's "OD1 - OD2" are heavenly! I had been playing through fender amps with stompboxes (Fulldrive and OCD). The amp is great for mild crunch to fullblown drive. I really need to record a few clips and post them. I think the headroom on the cleans and voicing on each channel offers a lot.. I no not know how Marshall can compare to the flexability of the Blackstar .. (ht-60 stage more specifically) as I have not used Marshall gear in the past. I do like this amp though!
