NGD! Before and after

It's kind of like new guitar day, except it's old, and I have owned it for over a year.

I bought this on craigslist in May of 2009. The next day it went to the shop. The owner offered to do the work real cheap if he could let one of his interns do it (under tight supervision) for experience. It also would be on a slow train to completion. Fair enough. I was in no hurry. That was 15 months ago.

Anyway, the owner was all about the quality control (I think the apprentice painted it more than once) and it came out great. I'm reposting the original pix to show the transformation.

There is a 1980 Les Paul Deluxe in there somewhere:

During:

And now:

Everything is new Gibson Historic plastic & vintage Grover Keystone tuners. The pickups are a BB Pro bridge and an 80's Schaler in the neck, both double cream.

Re: NGD! Before and after

Thanks for the kind words guys. The neck is very pretty. I'll get some better shots of it. Here's one of it in the raw:

It looks nice with just the clear.

Nice Neck. What is the story on the body binding. Was it re-bound?

It was rebound on the body and neck (nibs and all). The original binding was complete, but whatever was put on it wasn't going to come off very well, and we decided to just lose the original binding and redo it rather than save it. I would have prefered to save the old stuff if we could have. The new binding is very bright and needs to age a bit. The neck binding still needs the markers put in.

I'm still getting used to how new it looks. Not brand new, but thirty years old and unplayed.
