Fret buzz appear

Hi all,
I have developed a small fret buzz on my low E. It has been fine and come from no where?
What is the cause and solution to this please guys?
Cheers
Mark

Re: Fret buzz appear

A pro setup!

LPs are VERY temperamental when it comes to weather, so ANY changes in the temperature can even slightly affect the action, which can lead to buzzing.

Re: Fret buzz appear

Temp & humidity changes cause the neck to change shape, typically i do a set-up twice a year, this year has been really bad, i've had to tweak the action about 4 times.

Loosen the 4th, 5th, & 6th strings and raise your bridge on the low "E" side 1/4 turn at a time, retune, if neccesary repeat til the buzz goes away.

If you raise the bridge more than half a turn on the low E side, raise the high E side slightly as well.

Anything could have happened in those 3 months, as I said, they are very temperamental. You should have it setup about twice a year (once in the spring/summer, and once in the fall/winter). And, just for future reference? It's better to get guitars setup AFTER you receive them, because the action/setup can get messed up during transport, which is one of the many causes of having to get most guitars setup in the first place.

Well, there you go! The neck has probably back-bowed slightly due to the lack of pressure/pull of the strings.

Re: Fret buzz appear

THanks both of you guys, some great help. Never had to do the setup twice a year before but the weather has been odd this year so think you are both spot on.
Cheers
Mark

Re: Fret buzz appear

Playing with different tuning to what the guitar was setup to would most likely be the cause, especially if you have a very low action.

I just adjusted the neck on mine as this winter is the 1st we have really had in years and as others have mentioned LP's are sensitive to the weather.
Plays like an absolute dream now.

Re: Fret buzz appear

As was mentioned above, tuning to drop D is most likely the culprit (as is the weather change as well). Thats why most guys have certain guitars for different tunings and leave them like that.

Re: Fret buzz appear

possibly the string could be knackered. All that drop D and thrashing M'larki.
