Wow What a difference!!
Ive been playing my lp studio deluxe through a peavey vypyr 15. Last week I bought a blues jr and have been playing through that for the past week, and the difference is jaw dropping. All you guys that have been saying that the amp makes all the difference are definitely right!

Re: Wow What a difference!!
my upside down strung left handed Mexican Strat with a SD Hotrail in the bridge sound pretty bad ass through a cranked tube amp!
In other words, you are right.

A cheaper guitar though an awesome amp will usually sound pretty awesome...an awesome guitar through a cheap amp will often sound cheap and lacking.

Re: Wow What a difference!!
There are some fairly inexpensive and good mods out there for the blues jr, I think it'd be a good amp to haul around to local jams

Anyways, grats on the Blues Jr. You're definately seeing a real a tonal improvement over the Vypyr.

Re: Wow What a difference!!
For at-home playing and small jams I use a 1960 Gibson Gibsonette. Just 8 watts with a volume and tone control. I can run the stock 10" speaker or hook it to a 2x12 and it will sound pretty big.
![]() When shopping for tube amps, always be on the lookout for something older, low wattage and easy to repair. They can still be had for the same (or less) than some newer amps. |

![]() Volume, volume, volume. For most guys who have tube amps for home use, pics of their gear seem to suggest they live in a house. You'd be surprised at how much the open space between houses in your average American neighborhood insulates your neighbor next door from noise. They might hear it if they walk outside, might if it's dimed, but not if they're indoors watching TV at a decent volume. You can get away with playing a small low watter tube amp at some decent volumes. I live in an apartment. I can hear the people next door having conversations sometimes. I have a tube amp, but it can't be turned up louder than TV volume. It's far more fun and satisfying to have a decent modeling amp with cabinet simulation running through high quality headphones tweaked to simulate a cranked tube at and comfortable volumes. |
