Fender "Wide Field" pickups

can someone chime in and tell me what the differences are between the RI wide fields and the old originals from the 70's?

Re: Fender "Wide Field" pickups

They are called "wide range" humbuckers

The originals have magnetic pole pieces made of CuNiFe (no longer around).

The reisuues have single bar magnets like normal humbuckers and have padding stuffed into the case (which is larger than a regular humbucker)

They sound nothing alike, though almost any boutique winder can wind you up something that sounds very similar to the original and stick it in the RI case.

There is a wealth of info on the offsetguitars.com forum and many other forums that are more Fender based.

Re: Fender "Wide Field" pickups

They are nothing alike, to sum it up quickly.

The RI Teles are rumored to have 'normal' size humbuckers inside of the big cover. Maybe one day, I'll find that out for sure
