Tele Style Bridge Pickups

Posted something a while back over in the pups section, but it seems all the folks over there want to talk about is PAF style pups. Maybe more info here?

Anyway, I ordered a set of rail tele style pups from GFS. Their pups are usually pretty darn good for the money. Plus I'm close so they show up in a day or two. Ordered the modern vintage set which has a little more output then stock, was gonna try their Neovin pups but really haven't heard anything positive or negative about those yet.

What's the opinion of those in the Fender crowd of the more authentic sounding tele bridge pickup that won't have the noise?

Thanks

Thanks for the heads up, and I corrected myself. I know "best" is subjective. I guess I'm looking for some of the more "fender authentic" sounding pickups that won't produce the hum.

Re: Tele Style Bridge Pickups

I have neovin pickups in my strat and I really like em. I think theyre the Alnico IIs or something. Pretty quite but I think still sound like the classic strat; however, that is my only Fender so I guess Im not really much of an expert on the classic sound. All I can say is that I like them.

Re: Tele Style Bridge Pickups

Always love DiMarzios, but don't hear much about their "tele" pickups. May give one of those a shot. The Fender Samarium's also sound pretty decent.

Thanks

Any others?

Re: Tele Style Bridge Pickups

I had a Neovin noiseless Tele bridge pickup and didn't use it for very long. I suspected that the loss of hum equaled the loss of twang. No matter how I played with EQ or pickup height, etc. - and you do need to get them insanely close to the strings - I just couldn't get a satisfactory twang out of them. I switched to a DiMarzio Twang King and things improved. I just picked up a Nashville Tele which comes with a Tex-Mex bridge pickup and there's ample twang there - I've been very happy with the stock pickup set so far. So much so that I've put off replacing them with Texas Specials like I thought I would.

Thanks. A good friend and Fender purist also just suggested the Kinman, and he was gonna dig and see if he could find one he has.

Also gonna probably check out the DiMarzio. Been a fan of Larry's stuff for 30+ years so may as well give it a shot.

Congrats on the Nashville. I've eyed a few of those over the years. Nice guitars.
And Thanks for review of the Neovins.

Re: Tele Style Bridge Pickups

Not trying to derail the thread or anything, but am I the only person on the planet that isn't bothered with single coil hum? It seems that so many people strive to quiet down their single coil equipped guitars. I only hear it when I'm not playing...

No you are not , I never have used anything but vintage type SC's in my fender. Except once when I bought a tele plus with lace sensors. It didn't stick around long!I have played the Fender deluxe guitars and they do come close.I do not hear the hum when i am not playing, cause I turn the guitar volume down. But alot of people want quite and don't need the full on SC sound. Most HB's players like the noiseless idea.

Speaking of Lace I forgot about those C squared. Ya can get them as well and I do not think they cost much.

Back to lefty , I am sure C uses, or used SC's , But he did ask about noiseless pups.

Re: Tele Style Bridge Pickups

Do note that Bill Lawrence pickups are now being made by Lace. It was a brilliant move by Bill Lawrence to ensure that his pickups keep getting made, in light of his ailing health. Some would argue that the post-Lace pickups won't be the same as the pre-Lace ones, but in the end, it's not like Bill himself hand-built every pickup out of his shop. In fact, I believe the manufacturing move to Lace involved moving all of Bill's people and machinery to the Lace facilities. On the upside, I hope to God that Lace do a good job creating a proper catalog of Bill Lawrence's pickups so that the rest of us can have a comprehensive understanding of all the different offerings.

I will score a set of Keystones shortly, and I don't care if it comes from the Lace factory.
