Anybody have a....
Spalted Maple Telecaster? I was in my local music store yesterday ( I was hiding from my wife heh heh ). I did'nt really see anything that got me excited, so I picked up this Tele and checked it out, I was impressed with the build quality and set neck (You could'nt see the neck to body joint). It's definatley not your dad's Tele but interesting to say the least, so does anyone own one? I'd like to hear the pro's and cons on it as Christmas is coming and I have been known to buy myself a present from time to time.

Re: Anybody have a....
Was it made by Fender? I've never seen one, but I'll bump this for interest because I like the look of spalted maple.

Re: Anybody have a....
I think its kinda neat. But when you look at all of its specs (mahogany body and neck, maple cap, set neck, dual humbuckers, rosewood fingerboard, fixed bridge), how different really is it from a Les Paul, other than perhaps the neck scale and radius?

Hmmmm, I like the look of the spalted maple, but I don't like the specs. Apart from the look, it really ain't much of a Tele.

Re: Anybody have a....
Interesting replies so far guys. I'm still not wild about the spalted maple, I think that is something that would take a while to love. I know it wont sound like a Tele, but I have three teles if I want some serious twang. I love my Les Pauls as much as the rest of you on this forum, but lately I'm playing my Teles more than anything else. I like the simplicity of a Tele, but I'm always looking for something a little bit outside the mainstream. I kind of like one volume one tone with a coil tap, I have another guitar with the same setup and me likey. Thanks for your input guys.

Hey, as long as it impresses you, that's all that matters. Tastes are completely subjective! If it sounds good to you, you like the way it plays, etc, then get it!

Hey it looks great. I like this look, in fact here is my Tenor Uke.
Adding a Telecaster to my herd today, yes its NGD, but not one of these unfortunately, had to go with something less expensive this time around, so a Squire Classic Vibe 50's in big brown truck sometime today. [IMG] [/IMG]

Re: Anybody have a....
There use to be one at my local music shop i played all the time. Loved the pearly gates in the bridge position, and it also comes with a coil split on the tone knob which i thought was pretty neat. Very thin neck also, but it was something different i liked it.

Re: Anybody have a....
I've got a Fender Spalted tele - had it for a few years and like it a lot. Other than the shape of the body there's little resemblance to a standard tele. It has a set neck and Seymour Duncan SHPGP-1B Pearly Gates Plus - Bridge, SH-1N RP 59 Reverse Polarity - Neck, with push/pull coil tap, bound body and fretboard. In the single-coil mode you get a strat-like, almost tele-like sound. It looks better in person than the pics.
With my 2000 MIA Tele for when I need Tele Twang
