Well, new to me guitar day
![]() Can't complain. Snatched her up for $300, including a hardcase. I always loved the look of these, but never really played one through a real amp. I have to say, plugged into my Rocker 30 rig... I am real impressed. I figured I would want to immediately swap the pick-ups... Nope, they sound surprisingly good! The pots even work!? What the hell!? Real surprised at the quality of the guitar, especially for its price point (I believe they are like $899 new, correct me if I'm wrong). Seriously, not all Mexican Fenders are created equally and for the cash and what I am going to do with it (actually play it ha, take it on the road, etc)... It'll suit me just fine. I really can't justify dropping a bunch of money on a guitar right now anyways, not with me being in college full-time and I am going to be touring/gigging a LOT in the spring. After seeing what has happened to my LP Custom after sweating and bleeding all over it all summer long, I don't think I could feel good about taking something expensive out (plus, I am really worried about theft, especially after what happened with my bass players rig ).I don't even think I am going to mod it! Definitely no major stuff. But, from what I have been reading upgrading the capacitors is a worthwhile endeavor. Maybe I'll try that out. But, I really like the idea of just having a guitar that I enjoy without having to put in a ton of wrench time. I'll have to report back after the honey-moon session is over. But, for now... I think this is gonna be a keeper. I haven't had this much fun since I got my black Custom

Re: NGD!!! Fender 72' RI Tele
That would be super sweet. Problem is... I'm not for sure if normal buckers will fit. Although, rumor has it, the new Fender pick-ups are normal sized humbuckers with big covers.. We'll have to figure out one day haha

Re: NGD!!! Fender 72' RI Tele
Great axe at a great price.
Now you need to read up on the wide range humbuckers. Its a big discussion topic on the fender boards because the original pickups sound fantastic but unfortunately the reissue pups aren't close. They are actually just regular buckers with a bunch of padding to take up the extra space. There are plenty of boutique winders (Check out Curtis Novak) who will rewind / rework your pups to make them sound pretty darn close to originals. You might also want to put in some 1 meg pots as thats what the real deluxes had. Enjoy!!!

I will probably upgrade the electronics and caps though. But, as long as the pick-ups do what I want, I will probably keep them.
