Fender Standard relic
Just noticed this on ebay, and was intrigued.
Fender Stratocaster RELIC'd!!! on eBay.ca (item 220496727138 end time 24-Oct-09 23:23:52 EDT) It looks nice and not a bad price for an american standard relic. Your thoughts? |

Re: Fender Standard relic
I am unclear to it's true model, but it appears to be a Squier Affinity. It has been absolutely RUINED by the crude 'relicing'. Only MJKalman could have messed up a perfectly good guitar any worse.
![]() Note the Squier tuners:

Re: Fender Standard relic
![]() I don't think either of you read the auction. That being said, it is bullshit. He "accidentally" sanded off the serial #, and "accidentally" ruined the tuners and neck plate in the "solution". ![]() I think he either sanded off "Made in Mexico" or "Squire". Read his feedback, he has a short life ahead of him on ebay, that's for sure. And don't even get me started on the pick guard, it looks like it literally has shit smeared on it! I wouldn't give this guy $75 for this P.O.S. Oh and EDIT: I ran the "serial #" yeah right, this idiot couldn't even take the time to find a real # so he could put his scheme together. What a complete idiot. I hope he ends up getting into trouble over this crap.

Re: Fender Standard relic
Hmm well I think you guys saved me some money. I was close to putting a bid on it, but wanted long time guitar players opinion on it as I am still new to the models of strats and what to look for on fakes and etc.
Yeah the whole thing about sanding off the serial numbers, the nameplate and such seemed questionable. Also the idea of someone relicing an american standard really got me. Those are really nice guitars so I don't understand why someone would relic them. Thanks again guys. |

Re: Fender Standard relic
Yeah after watching the video, it sure doesn't sound like a american standard. I have a highway one strat and it sounds ten times better then that.
Oh well I guess, anyone know of a good place I could get a used fender body? I want to try my hand at building my own SRV guitar hence why I was looking at this just to take it apart and improve on it. Yeah I looked at his feedback on a SG he sold to someone. Even there he did the "Sanded off the headstock for paint" Why would you do that if it would ruin the so called Gibson name and serial numbers. Probably a cheap epiphone G-400. Anyways let me know of good places or sellers that sell nitro bodies. |

Re: Fender Standard relic
OMG his tone is horrible he must have gotten a sanded down version of slash tone. Did anyone else notice in the video his first statement was it's a real 60's strat. Absolute bullshit

Re: Fender Standard relic
horrid. what a pile of hack garbage.
dude if you want a REAL american strat that's been aged send me a PM. I have a 2000 American Strat refin'd in nitro Shoreline Gold, mint guard and TASTEFULLY weathered. You could have it for a little more than what this clown wants for his squire... |

Re: Fender Standard relic
I sent him this message via eBay:
"Besides the Squier neckplate, why does it also have a Squier pickguard, Squier tuners, and Squier bridge saddles?" I got this reply: "pardon? the tuners just look like schaller style tuners... look if you think its a fake or a waste of money dont bid on it. im really too busy to put up with questions like this man. the bridge says fender BTW. and the pickguard is 3ply parchment like the old ones were" I can only see one 'ply' of the stock cheap-ass Squier pickguard. Schallers? ![]() Reported.... |

I wonder if the cigarette butts are included?
![]() Holy crap, this auction was a great find. The entertainment value that we get from these tool bags is priceless. I hope no one falls for this.

Re: Fender Standard relic
I asked him "Out of curiosity, why would you replace the neckplate with a Squier neckplate? And why is the Fender decal not applied the same way as all other American Standard Strats?"

Re: Fender Standard relic
Here's the reply I got to my question. I'm not crazy am I? That decal is not in the right place is it?
well we had the squier neckplate in a big bag of rendom parts. the fender neckplate was well... basically destroyed in the muriatac acid around the edges where the screw holes would be. it wouldn't have done much good. and im not sure what you mean about the "decal". it doesn't seem to be a sticker to me. its just flush with the wood. and as far as the placement of it is concerned... im not really sure. where else could it go? thats the only place iv ever seen guitar logos on the headstock of guitars. - boggs1122

Re: Fender Standard relic
Well I'm mostly looking for something to start a project on. My ideal thing would be a nitro sunburst body with some wear on it. That way I won't feel bad when I start to sand it down. 100-150 is basically my price range on that, but if it's already put together 400.
Like I said I'm not looking for mint right off the bat, just want it to be a project that I could add new parts on every month. I already do plan on either using an american standard or highway one neck. Just finding the right body is proving to be troublesome. That or I may just buy a cheap Squire (Not this one) and just gut the thing and replace it with US parts. I wonder why he keeps using "we" like he's a company or something. Or maybe he more then one personality! ![]() Oh and it looks like ebay removed it. Last edited by DrakeZero; 10-22-2009 at 12:37 AM. |

Re: Fender Standard relic
I just asked him a question also,
'Hi There, I am interested in the guitar, but I am wondering if the chimpanzee that was obviously trained and used to smear the end product of defecation over the pick guard will be included in the auction? Kind regards'
