Is the David Gilmour Signature Strat worth it?

Made by Fender's Custom Shop.

Does anyone own one of these or has played one?

I'm looking into a new strat and this seems perfect as I love Gilmour and Pink Floyd.

Re: Is the David Gilmour Signature Strat worth it?

I love pink floyd too especially gilmours playing and I am not gonna like it is one beautiful bad ass guitar.

BUT

the price is no way shape or form anything I would ever consider

you can change any other strat to represent a the black strat.

But if you would want to put one together just check this out:
The Black Strat Project, 2008-2009

they use top of the line parts but is still by far not as important

also if you want to change another strat but you are afraid of doing big changes here is a drop in pickguard with all you need for the black strat. Custom Gilmour Style Black Strat Fully Loaded Pickguard Assembly
much better than the emg one if you ask me

Re: Is the David Gilmour Signature Strat worth it?

They are awesome, play like butter and are some of the best guitars I've seen come out of the shop, but still way over priced IMO. I'll wait for a used one in a few years.

Re: Is the David Gilmour Signature Strat worth it?

I have a buddy at work, that has a setup almost identical to Gilmors.. he's got the gilmore pups in a black am. strat.. long story short, let me know how interested you are, He's asking $250 for pus and $800?900? for the strat.. he bought it, had the pups installed and picked on it for 15mins.. that's it!

Sadly, we at my company work 70hours a week, and my buddy is a Release manager so he may be working even more... anyways, he's got a great deal if you're interested...PM me if you're interested.. great deal, i'd jump on if I had the cash.

I'll sms him for pics etc if you're interested..

If you have $50,000 in savings, and no debt, and a retirement fund all set up already, why not? But if you have like $4-$5k in the bank and other priorities, I just can't see spending that much on a guitar, but thats just me.

Re: Is the David Gilmour Signature Strat worth it?

I think it is a beautiful guitar but especially the replica version seems just a little intensely priced when you can put the same thing together yourself for half.
But I guess it could be seen as an investment.

Re: Is the David Gilmour Signature Strat worth it?

No signature guitar is worth it.. Unless of course you get it for the price of a non signature guitar.

I've never played it but it has the name David Gilmour in the name... I can't imagine it being anything short of amazing. Price is a bit o.o though

Pink Floyd is my favorite band and David Gilmour is my favorite guitarist, but i dunno if i could shell out that much money over a guitar i could easily duplicate for 1/4 of the price.

Re: Is the David Gilmour Signature Strat worth it?

I refinished my old 94 deluxe Strat into a sort of Gilmourish result. A lot cheaper option for sure.

Re: Is the David Gilmour Signature Strat worth it?

I love Gilmour. He's the one that got me into playing the guitar. But no way am I spending that kind of jack on a guitar others can have also. I took my time and built my own, replicating his specs where I preferred as well but went my own direction in Hefner custom neck in nitro (soft V shape) and Fender body (MIM) and Fender CS 54 PUPS (although a SSL-5L bridge PUP), Callaham bridge assy (w/ Gilmour short arm), jackplate and neckplate. I chose not to do the toggle switch mod after reading that even Gilmour never uses it. I was after the look of his but the feel I like. It plays the best of all my Strats (saying something) and rivals my Greco Les Paul for #1 status after having it set up by Rich Beck in Tempe. You can do it much cheaper than the real thing while still getting top notch quality and playability.

Re: Is the David Gilmour Signature Strat worth it?

I'm not familiar with this specific guitar. From the posts here it looks like it must be priced very high.

IMO, sig guitars in general are only worth it if you are really into whoever signed the guitar. And much of the time, there is a way to obtain "that" sound with a custom guitar or your own. Models in the $1-3k range can be worth it to anyone. But when the price rises from there, you're looking at the hard core fans who are just looking for a piece of that artist. No matter how small that piece may be.

But if it comes from the Fender Custom Shop, you can be assured that it's a quality guitar. -IMO.

Re: Is the David Gilmour Signature Strat worth it?

Havn't played one myself, but I've heard nothing but good things.

Imho, when you are looking at a Fender with that type of price tag, it should be considered more of an investment piece than a player. Are you looking for something to keep in a glass case and admire in hopes that it will increase in value in a few years? Or are you looking for a great playing strat with Gilmour's specs that you can take out and play without worry.

If it is the latter, then it is quite easy to put together a guitar using the correct combination of body/neck/pickups/electronics/etc. that will get you in that same Gilmour ballpark tone and feel wise for a fraction of the price.
