Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier?
It's like this: Gibson Melody Maker vs. Squier Classic Vibe Telecaster. In all likelihood, I'd pull the neck pickup from the Tele and 'esquire' the thing.
Any thoughts on this move? Have I gone mad? A USA-made no frills guitar for Chinese-made much-lauded one? It's a single-coil Melody Maker in white we're talking about here, not a P90-shod one. Would you do it? |

Re: Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier?
IMO I dislike MM's so .............. But a squier CV used is cheap enough ya think a person wouldn't have to trade away for it. Then again why not . I do not nor have ever wanted a MM in any way shape or form! I do own a Squier CV. IMO do the trade

Re: Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier?
I have been much more impressed with the CV teles than I have ever been with MMs. If it was me I would do it in a heart beat, they cost about the same new anyway right? IMO a very Low end MIA is not gonna be a much better guitar than a "High End" Korean or Chinese guitar

Re: Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier?
Thanks for the comments so far, folks. The comments I've been getting are really surprising. I posted this same question at TDPRI and most everyone said, "No, keep the Melody Maker". Here, I'm getting "Lose the Melody Maker, get the Tele"!
What's the world coming to? In any case, it's a bit of a moot point now. I just made an impulse purchase on a Tele. Utter madness. This Melody Maker will have to go now. |

Re: Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier?
I recently traded my p90 Melody Maker for an LTD and a cheapo Soundgear bass. It was a cool guitar, but imo wasn't worth the "value" that most people give it. Not when you factor in the incredibly nice Asian guitars you can get for that kind of dough.

Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier? - Telecaster Guitar Forum yep thought so. But that one fellow is correct in as much as try one first. And IMO if you really like the MM keep it and save for a used CV.

Re: Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier?
Sounds like trading a lump of gold for 16 hot wheels cars. I'm sorry it just doesn't seem like a good trade. Seriously find some other way man, please! FOR THE SAKE OF GIBSON!

Re: Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier?
It would hurt during the exchange, but all said and done, you WILL want to get your hands on that Tele as much as possible! I had to sell my Squier CV to free up some cash and to buy a Cab for my Tiny Terror, but do you know how I acquired my CV Squier? I traded a mint Gibson Flying V Faded for the Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat and an MXR Carbon Copy. Why not? The V was killing my back when I played it because of the posture it put me in standing or sitting, and the neck was too thin for my taste. I was looking to get about $500 for it, so, $349 for the Squier and gig-bag, and $150 for the Carbon Copy, I presented the trade to a dealer and he did it! The name on the headstock should not be the deciding factor. Having an instrument that works for you and an instrument that is nice (yes the Squier CV is a REAL guitar) is the most important thing!

Re: Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier?
Since you already bought a Tele, I'll save my opinions between it and a Melody Maker. Instead, I'll advise you to leave the neck pup in your Tele rather than "Esquire it." Bridge + neck in a Tele is a beautiful thing.

Re: Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier?
WTF people need a tele to sound like a strat with 5 way is beyond me . Let alone an Esquier that does. Whatever still better than a MM.

Re: Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier?
It comes from a few things:
a) a bit of "because I can" b) the test of versatility c) a fondness of Strat sounds when the occasion calls for it, but never being able to find a Strat that I like (mainly neck-related) d) no hardtail Strats to be easily found anywhere e) the whole "hidden pickups" thing is pretty cool |

Re: Q: Trade my Gibson for a Squier?
Each to their own. Congrats. , Necks on most strats are the same as teles. The nashville MIM is the same as the standard strat.
e) the whole "hidden pickups" thing is pretty cool. ? who are ya hidding them from and why?
