Best 12 bucks ever spent
I went to a used music store today in San Jose. I went in for a nut and a set of bass strings for a repair i did for an old friend and found this.
![]() I paid 5 dollars for the body. Real wood nice and heavy which I believe is ash. ![]() And 7 bucks for the pickgaurd, it came with 500k pots and a 5 way not wired up which is fine. ![]() there were no scratches on the body and the pickgaurd holes match perfectly. It is a good day in Rayneland. ![]() I have not seen this cavity rout with the notch in it so if someone knows something about it let me know.

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
That swimming pool route looks like an aftermarket mod to me; meaning I doubt it came out of the shop like that. But hey, if it works that's all that matters!

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
Theere were bodies on Strats back in the 90's were like that for
the Strat Plus and Fat Strats, they have them with both the newer style tremolo routing or regular tremolo routing with Universal routing. So that actualy could be a 90's Fender body ![]() http://cgi.ebay.com/1997-American-Fe...item2c512982e0 .

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
But look at the route on his and the route on the one you posted. The one you posted looks like the real deal while his looks a little different. Either way, for the money, I would've snagged that body too!

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
My ion strat copy looks like that same rote. It has the little dip on the top left into the cavity, it's not straight rectangular like the One coldsteal posted. It's probably a strat copy but looks nice

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
Yeah it turns out that it is plywood pos. I was told that it was real wood but curiosity got the better of me so I peeled some paint away and there they were the ply's. Oh well 5 bucks now can I turn a lemon into some sweet lemonade. We shall see when I get a neck which the same store put one out this morning for 25 bucks(hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm think it originally is the one that came on it) I am gonna put the UV20 in it and see how she sounds. By the way i believe it is a cheep squire body.

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
Ahh.. yeah, plywood makes more sense... especially with what seems to be a very thick coat of poly. I've got one that's pretty similar to that, some sort of generic '80s wannabe strat. MAN, is that plywood heavy! I keep meaning to get the parts to get it back together, but other "real" guitar needs seem to keep popping up...

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
Looks like my sister's late 80's/ early 90's Squier, hers had routes just like that, and they were plywood back then. Having said that, her Squier is actually a pretty nice playing guitar.

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
No actualy. Great now i gotta go get a neck and build it. The 2 combined gave a great SRV on roids and the neck alone is absolutely my favorite neck ever, no volume diff between the 2 either which was surprising.
By the way the first was my favorite look to.

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
That is surprising. Cool though. You know, I actually thought the "custom shop" stuff Dillion used to do (maybe still does) looked cool.. Yeah, it's really over the top and kind of campy, but I dig it:

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
Be aware, if that body is plywood and made by anyone other than Fender/Squier, putting a Fender licensed neck on it may require some redrilling.

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
LOL I do not have a issue with doweling and re drilling do I should be cool with it. I think the neck is a Fender fat boy neck. When the neck comes in I will post pics probably start a new thread and do it as a build. Show the parts, and see if I can truly get the tone and playability out of a true pos guitar.

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
I decided to check Egay this am and found several all wood bodies for 10 -25 bucks with no reserve. Some were ash others were plies. I found one that was maple for 22 bucks.

Re: Best 12 bucks ever spent
What brand? If they are the Eden bodies, they won't always fit a licensed Fender neck very well. The neck pocket (so I've heard) is usually a little too wide, and once again, the neck will probably need to be plugged and redrilled. It's not a lot of work to do it, but it's still something to think about.
