Re: does changing strings screw with action?

Not if you put the same gauge on . Sometimes even if you use the same gauge but a different brand that new brand may require a bit of reintonating. But doesn't happen ofen. Sometimes you can get batches of strings the same gauage made by the same maker and the intonation if off . But you shouldn't have any problem if ya do ya do. Ya ba duba do!

Do you know Voxac30dude I haven't seen him in awhile!

As long as you do not change the saddle height it should not. Some necks are , And I haven't come across this is. prone to not come back into the same relief when the strings have been off the guitar for awhile. I have never had that problem and I have had strings off for days at a time. If you notice the action a little lower when you do put the string back on , because maybe the relief didn't come back to where it was. Leave it tuned to pitch over night before you readjust anything. Sometimes it takes a neck some time to come back. But I never had that problem, some do!?
No big deal .

Re: does changing strings screw with action?

If you remove the strings and put the same kind (brand and gauge) you should be OK. You need to be very careful not to move the guitar around too much when you have the strings off because sometimes the allen screws will move and mess up your action

Re: does changing strings screw with action?

Unless you need to clean the fretboard, the best thing to do to avoid having any intonation issues is taking one string off at a time and putting the new one on. Take off the E, put on a new E. Take off the A, put on a new A, etc.

You guys have NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. The Gibson guy just make sure ya don't let the height adjust screws(bridge posts) move. Both you guy can measure the relief and height of your string before ya remove all the string. Do the measurements with the guitar tuned to pitch or whatever you tune that guitar to some tune up of down half a step. What i mean is if you had the pro that set up the guitar , set it up with a different tunning ,other than standard pitch (the A 440 on your tuner) Tune it that way before ya measure.
Once you have the measurements you can if needed put the guitar back to where it was if it does go out. Which shouldn't happen.

What is it ya need to do to the guitar. You guys do know that humidity changes can and do often affect the relief in a neck. The guitar makers supply the tool required with the guitar and instruction on how to adjust the neck.

Gibson and Fender both have setup guides on their web sites, Fender for sure Gibson I forget should have. These guides suggested measurements are only guide lines you may or may not want to stick to them . I find they work well for me.

Now that you paid a guy 60$ for a set up and like the setup, measure the relief and string height at the 12th fret, write it down. Learn how to put those things to those measurement yourself.

Re: does changing strings screw with action?

Oh and when removing the Strings all at once on the Gibson , if your bridge and tail piece are not the locking type they will fall of the guitar once all the string are off , so lay the guitar flat when you remove the strings hold the tail , once all the strings are off lift the bridge and tail off the guitar set them aside. What I did (do) with those types when removing the strings is loosen them off, unwrap (with guitar flat on bench)the strings from the tuners holding the tail in place. Once the strings are free from the tuners lift the tail with strings, off the guitar , cut the strings so they will pull out through the tail. This way the tail is away from the guitar so nothing gets scratched. . You can then lift the bridge off and if ya want you can take masking tape and place it over the posts so they stay in place.

Re: does changing strings screw with action?

For the Gibson guy this is about changing pickups but to do so the strings all come off, tips about the bridge tail shown here, but if you have the tone pro locking stuff no worries.
