New Strat Day (kind of)

Sorry for the bad quality pictures, no idea what it is, but it sounds and plays well. Any tips for getting the stuck ball ends out of the trem bridge?

Congrats ; stuck ball end. I use the trimed off extra from a 6th string. A small nail what ever you can fit down the hole from the top, push them out.

Thanks, according to the gear dater it's a 84 MIJ strat. Looks like I'll have to try a nail or something, no luck with paper clips or other strings, I don't think the strings on this have been changed for a while

Might try a little shot of liquid wrench, or a drop of some kind of oil in the holes . don't over do it, clean up anything excess. Let the oil soak in for a while , you might want to round off the point on a nail , use it and a small hammer. IDK never had any that gave me too much trouble. I suspose those could be rusted in a bit.

I thought it was a 80's MIJ

If worse comes to worst take the block out of the guitar and work on it.

Re: New Strat Day (kind of)

I actually just did that, they're stuck in there, I added a few drops of oil and I'm waiting to see if that will make a difference, I can see the ball ends and they're rusted over and won't move in the little hole/pocket they're in

Well, it's a nice looking Strat. Good luck with the bridge.

Thanks cynic. OverDriver you still around? Still no luck, even after taking the block out. Any ideas?

Man I don't know , ya got the block out soak it motor oil for a few hours or a day. Then go at it, and or put it in a vice with soft grip jaws or make up some thing to protect the side of the block. And pound the F'ers out. I would let more oil work on the rust first though. I don't know about drilling them out , I wouldn't try that unless you know what your doing. You wouldn't want to enlarge the holes to a point where the balls would fall through.

IDK if those guitarfetish import blocks fit thoses trems. Yogi may know.

Re: New Strat Day (kind of)

I have no idea if the GFS block will fit b/c I've never owned anything with a locking trem so I'm not exactly sure how they work etc... but email Jay at GFS and he should be able to give you an answer. For 20 bucks though it may not be that big of a gamble to order one.
