Tried some Custom Classic Teles yesterday...meh...

so i went to pro guitar shop in portland yesterday. tried a few custom classic teles. i would have to say they were underwhelming. all were in need of a serious setup, but just didnt like the vibe at all. and im not into the 4 way selector with the "in series" option. just didnt sound good. also, maybe im just a traditionalist, but i like the look of the 3 saddles SO much more. i guess for me its going to have to be a NOS nocaster. though i am leaning towards getting serious with a hahn. thats a big hunk of change though. but i am missing having a tele something fierce.

Re: Tried some Custom Classic Teles yesterday...meh...

Man, I hear you. I was at my local shop last week and played a new American tele (don't recall which exact model) and it just felt lifeless and sloppy. I generally love the way most Fender teles play but something about this one just made me underwhelmed. I went home and picked up my G&L Asat Classic Custom and remembered why I loved that thing so much. You may want to check out a G&L just for kicks.

yeah. i played a asat classic and it schooled the fender CC for way less $$$. ive played many a custom shop that were great, but never a CC yet. im not into the S-1 shit either. for me, the old teles were RIGHT. why change it?

You might check into a USA '52 Reissue. I picked one up a couple of years ago and it is one badass guitar. I'd like to get a second one just to keep tuned down a whole step.

Obligatory guitar porn:

Like most guitars (no matter what you pay for them or where they're made), the MIM Teles are hit or miss. Several years ago, I tried out a MIM Thinline Tele that I still regret not buying.

I was going to say this too....Its a toss up which will come first my paul or the 52. The 52 wont sting the check book so hard, and its a great guitar, even right out of the box. Matter of fact there is a used one in Seattle GC for 1k speak to Ted...Thats what the used page says on GC

When I went to go buy that Tele, I was ready to try out a mess of them until I found one that sings, like I always do. But the first one they brought out - that one - spoke to me right away. It took about 15 minutes to buy it, including the time it took to get them to give me a better price, write up the sales ticket and charge my card. It is one SWEET guitar by any standard.

Damn that's a nice Tele. I'm leaning that way for my project.
