Oh Noes!!!! Gotta scratch and some dings on my new Strat.:(

Look at what has happened to my brand spanking new Strat. I'm shattered by the damage and the OCD has gone into overdrive...

Also all the metal parts are rusted and I can't seem to get them shiny again...

The stupid pickguard and knobs have gone all green and matted down, plus they got really dirty...

What's with the paint coming off the body and neck so easily...

The back isn't much better...

The headstock...

Well, at least the fretboard seems ok...

I'm not sure I can live with a couple of scatches and some missing paint.

Sure don't make 'em like they used to.

Rick.

spanking new? You must be kidding? That looks like at least a couple of years of hard (ab)use. I like it, is it up for sale?

You use them as your pawns. ^^^

I took mine a few steps further, and have this as the result:

I'd finish sanding the back of the neck - mine was completely raw, and I am in love with it. The Nitro finishes on these models are VERY nice - IMO better than the American Vintage series (which I have owned), and much much nicer than the Highway One models. In fact, I'll go as far as to say that they are a nicer finish than what Gibson is using to day... PERIOD. My R8's finish is thick and plastic-y in comparison.

Congrats on the "new" axe - I love mine to death.

Beautiful. I'm debating whether or not to take down the shine a bit on my Squier CV... nice guitar, but looks rather cheap with the thick plastic coating....

How I acquired my Strat'. A confession.......

Hmmm, thought I'd pasted the link succesfully. But that was the name of the thread. The only guitar I've ever bought new.

I love Strat's. I think they are wonderful instruments. Check out Stratoburst's beauties from the 60's in his album "Strato interests".

Looked something like this, huh?

These Roadworns are great guitars. I haven't found an American strat that I like more - and that is the honest truth. None of the American Standards do it for me. The American Vintage RI doesn't either (I had one and have since sold it). The Roadworn Strat is a fantastic guitar - and I put a set of WB rewound '66 DuoSonic pickups in mine - simply the best sounding single coils I've ever heard, in a guitar which totally does them justice.

Couldn't agree more. The right handed Roadworns play better than the left handed American Standards. I've played a couple of American Standards, the new ones, and I'll take my MIM partocaster over one of the new MIA anyday.

Oh all right, I'll fess up, Diceman is correct, my new guitar is a Fender Road Worn.

After reading such high praise of the model from Diceman, I finally got around to trying them out. The music store I went to only had two available, the one I bought and a black one with the maple board. I auditioned them through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, more of which in a minute. The black one was a bit flat sounding, missing it's Strat sparkle and snap and I didn't like the wear job on the board. The burst is a completely different animal altogether. Lightweight, easy to play with no fightback and the closest Strat tone I've ever heard outside a pre CBS one I got to play years ago. The pickups are fantastic, even better than the ones on my American Standard, Fender got them right on this guitar, no need to change them. This guitar is a definite keeper.

The fake mojo/relic thing hasn't really done much for me, I do like a shiny well maintained guitar, but this thing just felt so right I had to get it, banged down the Visa on the counter without hesitation and I liked the Amp too, so that came home with me as well.

What is this Guitar Acquisition Syndrome that gets spoken of here at MLP???

Rick.

Good one Dice.

I'm afraid you and only you must shoulder the blame for me spending my hard earned shekels after reading your raving about what a great guitar your Road Worn is.

I like the neck on mine so no mods there. Actually the whole guitar feels so good it is staying as is.

Rick.

Rick - you've got the "best looking one" of the bunch. There wasn't a 60's burst in the shop when I got mine - but mine was "THE ONE" when I played it... The looks really did come second. The 60's model is much more "convincing" - since the fretboard wear on the 50's is kind of hokey. Oh well! I did the best I could to make the board look nasty and old.

Fender's Tri-burst is my favorite finish out there.

I doubt there is a guitar owning member of this board that couldn't tell you a tale of woe about the one that got away. you are in good company brother.

You know how it is CB, your in the zone and you can't be arsed going to the kitchen to make a bacon sarnie so a little nibble on the headstock gets you through.

Crikey, what an old, broken down piece of horse hockey that is. Reckon you'd be lucky to get a fiver for that at a car boot sale, or Christies for that matter.

Seriously though, do you own a guitar that isn't worth the poor old tree it was ripped from???

Jason, maybe just the back of the guitar first to see how it looks and how you feel about the change. Just a suggestion of course.

My biased response is do yourself the old favour and get down to a music instrument supply emporium and play a couple for yourself, I think there will be a pleasant surprise awaiting you.
