Fender and G&L: compatibility of parts?

Let's take Strats, for example.

Do Fender and G&L have parts which are compatible with each other? At face value, it's apparent that the bridge and pickguards aren't compatible. Can you put a Fender neck onto a G&L or vice versa? How about pickups (not counting those "staggered" Comanche ones)? The jack?

Just trying to add to my learning. Cheers.

I think you maybe right . Though I have never thought about it.If you look at the G & L neck heels they all seem to be akin to a tele at the end. No 5/8ths radius. They are three bolt also or no ?.

Re: Fender and G&L: compatibility of parts?

Hmm, feeling seems to be pretty unanimous about the incompatibility. Guess if I want a G&L, I'm gonna need to want it pretty much as is and not look to change stuff around too much.

I know many if not all of the older G&Ls are 3-bolt, but I believe their newer ones all have 4.

My '89 L2000 Bass has a 3-bolt.

I really want an ASAT semi-hollow somethin' FIERCE.

Re: Fender and G&L: compatibility of parts?

If you sent an email to G&L you could probably find out with more certainty than a bunch of guys on MLP saying "I don't think they're compatible" based on absolutely no facts. Just a thought. Good luck!

Higher probability of getting a correct answer than here, though.

Re: Fender and G&L: compatibility of parts?

Going to the source is always an option. However, the "we don't want to play nice with others" is always a possibility, too. Case in point, I wrote Gibson a few weeks ago after getting my Melody Maker and asked if their single-coil pickup had the same dimensions as the single-coil pickups of a Fender or the like. I got a very brief response along the lines of, "We don't have the dimensions of the Fender single-coil pickups". Don't lie to me, of course you effin' do.

Which is why I like asking third parties first - people who may have had first-hand experience tinkering around with parts and such. I do believe that current G&Ls have a four-bolt neck joint, but was curious about other things like pickups, etc.

There's www.guitarsbyleo.com (The G&L Tribute Page).

I'm sure there's plenty of information there.

Ya right , I work for a co that makes instruments. The short answer to this type of ? would be NO, you can not interchange parts . Even if it wasn't a ture ans.

Wake up man.
