Greg - would filler show up under a solid finish (without the finish needing to be overly thick)??

Only if you wanted it to. You would have a helluva time filling those carves in.

That's what I was really hoping for, a fill in and a paint job. But that's why
I asked on here because I'm not good with wood work and just wanted to know what would have to be done to fix it when I do decide to.

I'm glad, for one, that you chimed in Greg. I've seen some of your work on here and would not hesitate to take your advice (unless you told me to go play in traffic). When I decide you;ll be the first I call....as for now, or until the money situation gets better, I'm gonna enjoy my girl "Rosie" just as she is.

And BTW Greg, you need to give dj a call....he's rearry,...rearry ronery......seri-ress-ree!!!!!

Thanks man, it really is growing on me I have to admit. This guitar has been sitting in a closet at my dad's house for years and it dont deserve to just set there, so I went and got it and put new strings on it and set it up a little. I'm gonna play it and have fun with it.

I agreed with you dimwit!!. About it may look better veenerd or caped. But I do not ,IMO think it is something a person would call restored.

Any time you want to come over and show me how to play in traffic , MR. EXPERT come ahead. Your more than welcome.

If you didn't , IMO have people to sway with your EXPERT B.S. and stupid commments to fire off at people , well IMO you would have no forum life. You crave this B.S. & go out of your way to come off as a jerk a lot of the time.

Can you maybe have someone redo the roses so they look better, that is unless you want them gone.

Probably could, but I think if I was gonna have any work done on it I would just get rid of the rose all together. Im all about the history of individual guitars and the stories they tell, but usually it's got a scratch here or a ding there....not a friggin rose carved in it.

Like I said though, it is growing on me. I took some pics in the sun the other day....

The carving itself looks great.

I'd rather see it on a table or something.

It is a tough call.

Yeah, It's kinda like going out one night and drinking way too much and waking up the next morning with a mike tyson tattoo...it's like "I was wanting a tat, just not on the side of my face".

one thing i did notice, you dont have it listed in your sig.

i would figure if you were going to bond with it, you would have done so by now.

To be honest I have a lot more guitars that's not listed in my sig. Although I have been thinking lately about getting them all out and taking some pictures and doing some reasearch on some of them. I also have a '65 Fender Mustang that's been varnished with a paint brush (looks like anyway) you can see runs in it. I'm wanting to strip it down and paint it back to original color but my cash flow took a major dive and it's tough enough to keep strings on the ones I play most.

Re: 1970 Tele....Fix it or Leave it alone

I kind of like it.....
but if you aren't sure, you could probably find a replacement body on the bay for cheap enough.....do a transfer of all the goodies and play away. If you ever want to make it "all original" again, you can always transfer everything back onto the carved body.

Either that or get a really good luthier / woodworker to fill in those routes and then refinish the whole thing in a solid color. I think that makes more sense than taking the whole top down....

Re: 1970 Tele....Fix it or Leave it alone

From the first pics I had my doubts, but based on the latest, I'd leave it. Very early '70s, for which I'm nostalgic. I'm old.

Re: 1970 Tele....Fix it or Leave it alone

I think it looks great, I agree with what another suggested, that may need some more definition, but looks great just as it is. I would buy that git in a flash, love it.

Also, I don't no how old some of you are, but 1970, and the Rose, were most certainly in everyones crosshairs back then, know why? (drum roll)

Although I would not choose this top as my personal "signature" model. it's there, it's not hurting anything and doing much restore work is going to be costly.

If you decide you want to have a restoration done on it, Greg is the man. I am going to have Greg do some work for me very soon. We talked about it today.

Personally I'd leave it. It's of it's time and I think people appreciate that. There's a million plain old Tele's out there and I guess folks won't forget that one!
