Re: $650 for a 91/92 Fender American Strat

If its in good shape not bad. But you can find 08 used for only a little more . One sold a week ago for 750 Canadian a mint 08. I see them pop up any where around 750-1000 08's that is.

550. would be a better price for a 91/92 in good condition IMO.

I am gonna try and get it lower. If it was a '90 I would have bought it right there because that was the year I was born. It does have some chips on the neck but I like it because it is a nice guitar and I don't have to worry about beating it up.

I mean its a pretty good price if its not trashed, its not like USA strats keep depreciating and they hit a low around 500-600. But one thing, if its a 90s strat it may have the swimming pool route, which may or may not be what you want

IMO the pre 2000 American Standards although made in America , should depreciate IMo they are inferior to the post 2000 American Series , which are also IMO inferior to the 08 American Standrads.

Re: $650 for a 91/92 Fender American Strat

I have a black 91 and it is fantastic.

at 650 you're getting a fair deal, not a steal and not ripped off.

I got mine about 5 or 6 years ago for 400 out the door with OHSC from a Pawnshop who must have been looking to turn it quick.

It does have the swimming pool route. I don't think it robs as much in feel and tone as some think, and it allows you to experiment with humbuckers and such without any body modification.

Re: $650 for a 91/92 Fender American Strat

91 gunmetal blue, maple neck, Fender hard case.
My first decent electric (Bought new IN 1991!!). Sold it for nothing and didnt come back strat until last year. If I ever find the same model in good shape I might have to buy it. Even though this is my current strat.

2 piece Ash body. MIJ so no worries about the 3 screw micro tilt neck joint. I only paid $400, which woulda been a steal but I had to replace the switch and pots. Replace the pup covers and knobs with white. Then shield the pickguard. Now it sounds ok. I think I bought it basically for the quality of the body. Someday Ill find better pickups to put in it. I already got rid of that amp and pedal. Got a Fender Twin (Heavy beast) and Boss SD-1 and DS-1... Jury is still out on pedals, but Im taking funk lessons, so Im thinking Flanger right now anyway...

When you get yours POST PICS - we wanna see. Even of the gig bag!!

That looks cool. Was it easy changing changing the pickup covers?

I agree. I once owned a '91 Deluxe Strat Plus. While it was a decent enough guitar, I am significantly more impressed with the newer offerings from Fender.

I'm wondering why? That's something I hated about my '91.

I suppose it's just a personal preference thing.

Re: $650 for a 91/92 Fender American Strat

Please lets not get into whats inferior to what else. Are jocks so tiny that this is what is it comes to? Overcompensation? If a guitar doesnt stay in tune, or is known to remove an eye from its owners when you change strings... or if it causes cancer, then sure, you could say that was an inferior guitar.

But lets be REAL about this. Buddy Guy, or John Mayer any one in that class could take a busted 5 string powderboard built COPY of a squier and still make it sound better than you and some Fender Masterbuilt

So, lets not get too hung up on "superior" and "inferior" guitars...

WTF! post something that makes sense, wHO cares what Guy can and can not do. And yes Fender thoughout the years, has made INFERIOR STARTS AND TELES ,INFERIOR TO WHAT THEY HAVE PRODUCED AND DO PRODUCE TODAY .

seing as you like to bring up Guy and Mayer, 2 guys I don't give a rats ass for in listening displeasure. They can make BLAH BLAH. Hey what do the play on!
Squiers!? , of course not. But your going to put words in their mouth ,so to speak ,for what purpose. To convince people that an INFERIOR FENDER PRODUCT SHOULD HOLD ITS VALUE CAUSE , GUY COULD MAKE A SQUIER SOUND GOOD.

Take it back bro. its only worth about 200$ bad workmanship even for a MIM the neck pocket alone scares me.

Re: $650 for a 91/92 Fender American Strat

OD

My whole point about inferior/superior guitars come from a "grass is always greener" perspective. Being American I hit English guitar forums. But living in Japan, and buying all my gear here, I get a unique perspective.

Too many people bash (or stratify) guitars in some order based on location of build. It usually goes something like this: MIA > MIJ >MIK > MIC > MII > MI?...etc But what about Paul Reed Smith SE models? They are MIK and they play pretty nice. I had a Parker made in Indonesia that was better than some MIJ guitars. And to be certain Ive seen and played some MIA guitars that didnt hold up to some MIC guitars.

Too many people here in Japan bash China and Korea worse than most Americans do. Its sad really. But whats funny is that MIA guitars are supposed to be at the top? Here in Japan they have COPIES of the MIA guitars that cost FAR more than the originals do. Im not talking about MIJ Tokai, or MIJ Epiphone, or MIJ Fender, Im taking about "History" which doesnt really look like the original, but because its MIJ, they charge more money here (in Japan), and people buy into it!! I dont see the logic of paying MORE for a copy of a strat that doesnt look like a strat...when I could own a strat made in the Fender Factory in my home state! But....if I were Japanese... maybe Id want the guitar made in MY homeland...

So WHO makes the truly superior guitar?? Isnt it up to the person buying/playing it? And as far as what a person wants from a guitar, isnt it great tone? So (Insert your guitar hero) and put him on the crappiest guitar you can think of. Do you think Joe Sixpack could outplay him using a 59burst LP, or a 55 Pre CBS strat? Do you think such "holy grail" wood and wire will magically make him into a professional?

Im just saying that people should focus on enjoying guitars and getting better at playing them. Not getting better at bagging on others.

Having said all that... I saw the pictures of EFFs guitar. If MIM guitars cost less NEW than he paid for USED... then I would agree, theres an issue there.

Re: $650 for a 91/92 Fender American Strat

that is not an american strat! the saddles look like old squier saddles, and the neck pocket is seriously sloppy. It also has ceramic magnets, and is not routed like a USA strat of that era? The paint in the cavity doesn't even look right. I hope you didn't pay 600 for that?

Could it be an American neck on a MIM body? Saddles did not look right for US. Pull off the neck there will be marking in the neck pocket and neck heel. How about some headstock pics??
