NGD... Well sorta

So I went in today to put down a down payment on one of those Squier Classic Vibe Teles I've been gassing after, when I ran into this most peculiar guitar. I take it down and ask to play it. Turns out its a 1981 Fender Bullet Deluxe. They only wanted 500 bucks for it. For 150 more than the Classic vibe, I couldn't turn down a "vintage" MIA Fender. So I told them to hold it for me so I could scrounge up the extra change to put it on layaway tomorrow.

Im so excited. It had one of the nicest necks I've ever played. The original cream finished had nicely aged to a yellow almost butterscotch color, and it real nicks and scrapes all over, Its truly a Road worn. I know this thread is worthless without picks, but I'll post a pic of one but not the one I'm getting.

Apprently these were supposed to be the cheap Fenders billed to replace the Mustangs and other student models that Diceman loves .

Sweet Fender incest!

That looks like the lovechild of a Tele, Strat, and a Duo Sonic to me...

Congrats man!

Re: NGD... Well sorta

I read rumor that these were made with left over Tele necks from the 60's, if so that would be awesome. Either Way I know it felt extremely nice. Its a pretty cool guitar, because this style was only made for one year 1981-82.

Re: NGD... Well sorta

Fender and Gibson made some of their coolest guitars in the 70s and 80s for sure.

That would be sweet, indeed!

It's always nice to find a comfortable guitar that suits you, especially one that's fairly rare.

How does she sound?

Re: NGD... Well sorta

Very distinct. I plugged her into a Fender HRD. I really like the bridge pickup. Not as harsh as a strat in that position. Overall it sounds more like a mellow telecaster, that isn't as "Twangy" if you understand me. The neck pu is really cool and reminds me of the '83 Squier bullet I had, with the Neck neck bucker split.
His another pic I found but without the solid covers

Well I put down 60 on it today, so its good and on lay-a-way. I got about 470 to pay on it so it should be mine in time for my birthday on the 26th . I can't get enough of this thing. Played it again today for like an hour before the shop manager put her back. These vintage "Student" Fender's are really where its at. Need to find a Duo or Mustang now

I think somewhere...lurking...in the shadows....

Dice is looking for one of these.

I need to do some setup work on my Fenders. They've been unloved for far too long.
