New Strat
Well after noticing that my amp sounds really cool with single coils a few months ago. So I set out looking for a fender. A few weeks back the shop got a nice MIM Standard in, black with a maple neck. I liked it instantly and have played it whenever I was in town. I went to the store today with intentions of pulling the trigger but... One problem, it was gone. I looked around the whole shop but to no avail. I ask an employee and he had no idea what I'm talking about. Surely it was gone. As a last ditch effort I asked Mr. Repairman about it. He looked at his friend and they both laughed at me. "Just finished with it" is what he said and then he pulled it out... Chrome pickguard and every knob and peice of plastic was replaced with a black part. I was stunned. Played it and it felt as familiar as ever and it sounded nice, so I followed through with my intentions. I am limited computer wise for now so pics will be in the future (I'm writing this on my iPod) and as a quick question, if I tighten the screws on the spring claw will the bridge be more secure? Because if I do a whole step bend I can see the bridge move

Re: New Strat
To answer your question on the trem.. That is what happens when you have springs supporting the tension of the strings.
It is very normal for the bridge to move when bending cause you are increasing the tension on that string so the springs will stretch more. You will also notice that bending may be a tad easier on the strat cause of the springs but you will have to bend further to reach a full note as opposed to a guitar with no trem. (also somewhat due to the longer scale length.. but mostly to the springs) Enjoy the strat! |

Re: New Strat
Yes screw the 2 in further to bring the block (trem) down. If you want to use the trem though that will always happen. (some what)
Detune the guitar first then screw them in a bit ,tune up and bend some , repeat the procudure till it stops moving . I have mine so they are flush will the body all the time. Do not burry the screws (ie. don't overtighten) in the body, could crack the wood. If you have any doubts on working on it yourself take it back in and have the repair guy setup the guitar to play to your liking. http://www.fender.com/support/stratocaster.php setup for using trem |

Re: New Strat
I just love that chrome pick guard.
I have been thinking about building my own "parts caster" and when I get around to it, I'll be using a chrome pick guard just like the one on your killer new axe. Peace Out and Rock On!!!

I plan on taking the bridge out (the cheap whammy bar broke off) to do some work on it next time I change strings. I think I should loosen the claw first, then remove the springs, and then do screws and stuff. Sound about right? |

Re: New Strat
"Made in Mexico" Import Strat UPGRADE trem- Solid STEEL block These are a good idea for your guitar of atleast the steel block which they sell seperatly I think you need the trem arm they sell also cause well your broke for one thing and cause the thread size is different I think.
Ya to take the bridge out thats what do do, When reinstalling the six screws (plate mounting ) don't overtighten them either. And when ya put it all back just do all in reverse. Put the trem claw springs on before ya screw the claw springs in. The trem block in the MIM is made of Zinc the steel ones are nice to have . If you are not plannig on using the trem at all or for some time to come you can block it with a piece of hardwood. |
