Baja Telecaster

Anyone here own one? I played one back in 2007 and have had it on my "to buy" list ever since. It had incredible tone and so versitile! The S1 switch with the 4 way selector is really nice. You can select the pickups in series, in parallel, and in and out of phase with the S1. Custom shop pickups, Ash body looks great in blonde, and the neck is nice and fat!

The blackguard version is the one I want!!..

Thanks again! How cool would it be to have one of these professionally refinished in nitro? Just a thought.

Re: Baja Telecaster

Not much of a nitro fan , but with what they go for new price, I think a person could put one together. & finish it in nitro .The neck pup might be a problem but , they pop up used from time to time as well. And someome surely could make a pup close to the twisted. I think its onlya little taller and hoter than a reg. tele neck pup. And they use a nickel silver cover instead of chrome platted brass.

Re: Baja Telecaster

We didn't have a Tele in the family, so I bought a Baja for my son. (he kept wanting to pick up my Custom Shop Strat or R7) Turns out, I loved it. I kept taking it to my gigs. I felt guilty so I bought a '52 Reissue. Now I love Teles. What was wrong with me? I didn't know what I was missing.

Man, I played a 52 AVRI and the 52 Hot Rod version at GC the other day. Now I don't know which one to get! Surprisingly, I really liked the sound of the neck pu in the 52 AVRI. Maybe even more so than the mini bucker in the hot rod.

Re: Baja Telecaster

That's a deal! It makes me sick how much prices went up on new ones! I would need to sell my us strat to swing one of these, but it might be worth it.

Are you saying you don't like the 7.25" radius?

Re: Baja Telecaster

The specs on the Baja look really nice, and I was seriously considering getting one last year. I was torn between that and a J. Mascis Signature Jazzmaster, but I couldn't find either locally to try out.

Ended up getting a Les Paul, which drew me here. Worked out pretty well in the end I'd say!

Re: Baja Telecaster

I bought one about a month ago, it was 1/4 of the price of my LP but it's a lot more than 1/4 of the guitar. The series/out of phase setting (S1 switch down, selector fully forward) is brilliant, very different. It's built like a tank too. I'd recommend getting one.

Oh, my bad! I knew it was close to 10 inches... I like either radius. My thing is the shape.. I love the U shape on the 52's! I remeber the Baja had a nice and thick neck, but I think it was a soft V. I wish there was a store around here where I could A/B a 52 AVRI with a Baja just for kicks! I bet the Baja could hold it's own against the pricy AVRI!

Yes it could , why even the squire classic vibe , I bought on Friday. Stood its ground in a band situation last night. Up againist a 80's AVRI52 . Held up just fine.

And I have no problem switching radius. All good IMO
The V and the U are my fav. profiles also.

IMO the Baja will hold its own and then some

Re: Baja Telecaster

I picked up a sand colored Baja Tele on craigs list last Fri.
The kid I got it from had it listed for $550. When I got there to check it out he had me wait outside in 112 degrees because of what sounded like 20 little yelping dogs in the house. wanting to tear poor Grandpappy's throat out! Thank God it was shaded. Anyway he hands me the guitar and says he's got no amp. He already sold it!
He says" I lost the knobs and pup switch tip"(!)
Other wise it's in pretty good shape. Says if I buy it and dont like it, or it doesn't work I can bring it back. I offer $400 and he says no he needs the dough. So, I tell him the guitar is beat and nobody's going to buy it for that price. He says wait here a minute and goes back inside and comes out w/ Mommy! I explain to her the obvious defects on the Baja and she say okay $450. SOLD! I ask the kid if the S-1 switching works and he has no clue what I'm talking about. Switching ? What Switching. What a Rube!
So I got it for $450 and it plays great and sounds spicy. I like the soft "V" neck
I bought the S-1 knob this AM on line and should have it by Wed.
If the S-1 doesn't work for some reason, maybe I'll go back and ask for some money back!

Re: Baja Telecaster

The poor kid was pertty young. Braces and pimples. I think he probably had his parents buy the guitar for him so he could become a rock and roll star and when it didn't work out his partents dictated to him the $$$ they wanted him to sell for. Actually his Mom was kind of hot! 35-ish, nice body, pretty hair............well I am a Grandpappy, after all!
