Value of '85 MIJ Strat - modified?

My buddy is selling an old '85 Strat out of his shop. It's a Japan strat. . . which I know are becoming more and more popular these days. My only beef with it is that it's not 100% original. . . which may not be a bad thing as it has an Evans pickup configuration (which are no longer made) including a bridge humbucker setup (which from the looks of the pickguard could have been original, as a lot of these guitars were routed for them in the mid 80's regardless). . . and the locking nut was also removed from the piece during the 80's.

It's sat in the back of his store for the past 15 years getting some mojo, and is a real fine piece.

Can someone give me an approximate value on this guitar? I wanna buy it but he may or may not be asking too much, and I'm not really familiar with the MIJ strats.

Thanks in advance! Pic included: (it could certainly use a cleaning)

Re: Value of '85 MIJ Strat - modified?

Most of the MIJ that I am familar with ,are the JV Japanese Vintage , they go for 750-1000 typically, depending on exactly which. The one you are showing IMO is not worth very much. Do you like it? whats he want for it. Bottom line is that guitar is not one of the sought after MIJ Starts. IMO 400$ tops for that thing

What info on the JV visit www.21frets.com those are the sought after guys.

Yeah, he's not asking much. . . 450 as-is. The evans pickups sound pretty good, and are kind of a collective in themselves.

You know those sales guys ask 450. take 375 cash. If it something you would want price is of no matter, offer 350. take it from there.

Yeah, that's what I was going to do. I never pay asking :P Regardless I wanted to make sure it was atleast in that ballpark in value. Wish it was more original with maybe an OHSC. . . but it's an interesting piece no less.

Yeah those go for about 400-500 bucks. The JV are more sought after and can fetch upwards to 1,000+
