Squire 60's vibe ,red or burst?
Sold my MIM self relic to a very happy buyer (after a week of $25 or less offers because it'll cost hundreds of dollars in paint to make it playable!?!?.....whatever)...
I was sold on candy apple red, but now I'm thinking 3 tone sunburst, have an aged white 3 ply guard to put it on it if I go that route. opinions? ![]() ![]()

Re: Squire 60's vibe ,red or burst?
If it was some trendy neon color I'd say you'd probally get tired of it once the newness wore off, but those are both nice classic colors.
I've never seen a Squire classic series with a transparent finish up close. Are they photo finish or is that the real wood grain showing through? I've seen some bad photo finish on guitars before, in which case I'd rather have a solid color. If it's a quality finish then I'd go for the burst just for a change of pace. |

These are supposed to be solid alder, not sure if its a veneer over a 30 piece body or not, love my lake placid 50's , but the more I think about the candy apple red, I already have a bright red gretsch....wish they had shell pink....probably will next year....

If you already have a red guitar, then that would seal the decision for me! I'd get the burst just to have something different.
Go with your gut instinct! You really can't go wrong with either. |

Well, you can't top that red! That's a beauty! But I've always loved rockabilly and I tend to always think Gretch = Rockabilly when I see one. Really fantastic guitar there.

IMO if ya get the burst you can always paint it red some day.
No stripping just alittle sanding and off to candy apple land.

Well, you already know what I think. The grain on the sunburst is beautiful... but for the record, it is a veneer. All of those Squiers are AT LEAST 3 pieces, I'm sure. Still great guitars though! Acording to our bathroom scale mine weighs somewhere between 5.5 and 6 lbs.

Re: Squire 60's vibe ,red or burst?
I like both colors but I have never owned a red strat-For some reason they don't sell as good as other colors and they do seem to sell a little less on the used market.
Take the sunburst, put a mint green guard on it and welcome to 60's strat land-- I don't own a squire, but if I was thinking of buying one, it would be one of these. I have a Lake Placid blue strat, a 3 tone 60 classic players and a black strat-Maybe I should buy a red one too, lol. Your not buying a ridiculously expensive guitar-get the color that appeals to you the most-What do we know, lol. |

Re: Squire 60's vibe ,red or burst?
if I had a a penny for every spelling mistake I've made...Bill Gates would be lining up to give me blowjobs....as long as the point gets across I dont worry about it anymore.
Wish they had more flavors in the 60's version, shell pink would be my number one choice, those just look awesome with a little age.... I went sunburst, and the tort is coming off, I just dont care for tort at all, and never have, I have an old parchment guard allready, though depending on how the guard I'm getting from scottie for my 50's turns out, may get something from him in the mint variety. |

Ice, I think you will be pleased with this guitar. They are really nice and they seem to have decent pickups in them too.
Show us some pics when you get it where you want it. |

Re: Squire 60's vibe ,red or burst?
I have high expexctations for it, my classic 50's strat still amazes me after a week....hence my desire to snag a 60's right away before fender either ditches the line....drops quality....or raises prices again....
The 50's has everything I want out of a maple neck strat, the looks, vintage tuners that work great, pups that sound like they are suppossed to, controls that actually work, and finish that just kills, best fretwork of any sub $800 guitar I've ever owned out of the box.....if I bought a LPB maple board MIM, I'd probably be satisfied with the parchment guard....but I'd need new pups, likely lots of fret work, new keys...basically a lot more expense plus a good bit more expense all for thwe sake of a larger fender logo and no squier logo. I'd love to buy american, instead of fender I'd love to buy a pro made parts caster built by an american with american parts....thats just not possible for me ATM. |

Re: Squire 60's vibe ,red or burst?
She's here, and she rocks!, I'll go ito detail in her own thread, but for comparion sake, I did some quick and dirty guard shots, the sun kept peeikng in and out so I couldnt get as good a base line pair as I wanted, rember the tort has its film on it , and the white is just laid on top, hence the "odd" look.
I still like white better than tort, though I've been pondering mint.. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Squire 60's vibe ,red or burst?
Mines a 3 piece for sure, pretty sure she's solid, she sounds it, resonates as clear and loud as my 50's, when my go to luthier played with my 50's he said it couldnt be multiple scraps glued to gether and said he'd wager firm it was a 3 or 4 piece body max. The back seams match up the front, the grain patterns corropond correctly as well, not the same, but from the smae plank.

Re: Squire 60's vibe ,red or burst?
thanks, probably gonna work on hr tonight, guard, pots, etc....she's definarly a different sounding animal from the 50's, its well worth having them both, but in terms of fit and finish, overall tonal quality, just as good as my 50's, highly reccomeded for the money, i love the saying I've been hearing from many boards, " classic vibe series arent good guitars for the $money$, they are just simply great guitars period. " I fully agree with that assesment.
