You can't go wrong with any of them, honestly. I own a Mexican Tele and it's a fine guitar as well as some PRS's.
It really just depends on your playing style and stuff.

It's ironic how you can use capitals when you wish to highlight a point.
Go during the day, when the kiddies are in school. If the display models are so bad, then you won't feel bad about playing them, huh? Decide which one you wish to buy, then demand a new, in box item. Yes, they are awespome. I have considered the Singlecut SE and the One model myself a few times. |

Most Mexican Fenders and Korean PRS' are pretty good guitars for the money.
If you can, play before you buy. I didn't and still got great instruments from both Mfg.ers. |

Re: korean PRS vs. mexican strat? Help!
I can only speak for the Fender.
I've got a '96 Mexican Strat that has been a workhorse for me for the last 7 years. I think finding a used Mexican is an even better deal- its a cheap, reliable guitar that you won't be afraid to nick-and-dent while you're playing or travel around with. Sound should be the MOST important quality of any guitar purchase, and I agree you should play some first to get an idea for what you like. I've had no issues with the neck at all- stays straight and true, plays wonderfully, and the frets haven't worn down yet. The bridge/nut/tuners do their job- obviously not a well as a Floyd Rose or locking heads, but certainly well enough. Mine has a 3-spring bridge support, which is, once again, not the best but certainly acceptable. Honestly, if you're really concerned with minute details over sound quality, then buy an American-made guitar. The Mexi's are cheaper because they're not as refined, and that's just the way it is. That being said, my Mexican has almost never let me down travelling or playing gigs. Hope this helps. |

Re: korean PRS vs. mexican strat? Help!
They are both great guitars for the price (although the Fender was a better value before the price hike). Both are gig-worthy, but there is room for improvement (electronics, nut, etc.). My best advice is to play both and decide which speaks to you more. Even if you can't hear all the subtle nuances in tone in a loud music store, see how they feel to you.
Either one is a winner, so don't sweat it too much. |

Re: korean PRS vs. mexican strat? Help!
Classic vibe squires that I have played so far and I now own one bests most stock MIM's I've played, including the one I own (pre ceramic pups) in all matters that count, once you play one you will see why the big stores like GC wont put them on the shelves....cause they wont sell many mexis....and the CV's need very little in mods, the only major cosmetic mod would be to replace the relflective plastic guard....the pups smoke! And mine plays ten times better than it looks, and I'm still on stock factory strings and setup....

Re: korean PRS vs. mexican strat? Help!
Lineup vs lineup they're very comparable in quality, though you're talking about very different styles of guitars. You've got set necks in the PRS lineup vs bolt necks on the Fender lineup. Mostly mahogany bodies and necks with the SE's vs alder, ash, and maple with Fender. The PRS's have a flatter radius fingerboard and generally wider, slightly thicker neck profiles. Pretty much nothing but humbuckers and P90's in the SE lineup vs single coils and a few humbuckers in the Fender lineup.
It all comes down to "try before you buy". Suck it up and hit up a GC. Kids are still in school around here till mid June, so like Dennis said, just go during the day.

You can find a used MIM Strat or a MIK PRS for about the same price, if you are patient. |

Re: korean PRS vs. mexican strat? Help!
I'm not going to slam the SE's at all - because they are nice guitars - but I will mention that the hardware is chrome plated and flakes off rather easily. I prefer my MIM (Roadworn) Strat to the PRS SE that I have - but I could easily see someone thinking otherwise.

Re: korean PRS vs. mexican strat? Help!
Good point, dice. I've never been impressed with the quality of metals on guitars imported from Asia (other than Japan), regardless of the brand. The great thing going for MIM Fenders is their upgradeability and a huge selection of aftermarket, third party parts.

Re: korean PRS vs. mexican strat? Help!
I meant to say "SE that I HAD" - I didn't sell it because I didn't like it, though - just because it was one that I was less attached to. That guitar sounded phenomenal and played very well. I put a PIO cap in the tone circuit, and it sounded great. I guess I'm just more of a Fender guy than a PRS guy when it comes down to it...

Re: korean PRS vs. mexican strat? Help!
I agree that Classic Vibes are a much better deal than the MIM standards. You might want to save the $200 bucks unless you are looking used. The Classic vibes easily compare to high End Mexis/ low end MIA IMO. I had two, and you can't go wrong for $350. Here's one next to a USA strat:

Re: korean PRS vs. mexican strat? Help!
I love my vibe, put my mexi on craigs list to go towards a candy apple 60's, everytime I pick my 50's up the happier I get, and I still havent changed its strings or done any setup work at all....just a great quality guitar!
