another 56 reissue, this one with AA flame neck, it looks 3D in real life, the picks dont do it justice.

Re: new strat!!!!
I went in to play the roadworns, and tried the 60's 1st. the rosewood felt good, and the fretwork was better than expected. It played well, but didnt SOUND very good. not STRATY at all, more like 300 dollar ibanez. The highs didnt sparkle, plucking on the low E had no punch (thru a twin on 6!). It was also VERY light, not just for a strat, but for a guitar in general. The relicing was A1. Top noch job on that, very authentic. I figured maybe I got a dud, so I tried the 50's (maple fretboard/neck). a little brighter, but same issues I had with the other one were still there. Played well, but no uumph. I asked to play this red custom shop R56, because Ive played it before and KNEW it played and sounded great. 1st off, double the volume right off the bat. Heavier, surer playing, SOUNDED like a strat thru a twin reverb ought to. sat there for half hour and doodled, hopelessly doing my best SRV imitation in the 1st position. God this guitar ROCKED! every pickup sounds great and is useful. so the tag had 2699. no way. but 1 year finance. Stioll too much money. Long story short, walked away paying 1900 bucks. I could have gotten 2 roadworns, but they wouldnt have amounted to half the strat this is.

Re: new strat!!!!
Very nice - both of 'em!! I quite like that 2 tone burst!
(I've noticed a bit of hit or miss w/ the Roadworns among the 6 that I've had my hands on - that said, the one I scored is amazing and sounds great!) |

Re: new strat!!!!
Thanks for your story too, it is the way we should all buy our gear. Play one, then another until one speaks to you. Than haggle on the price. Sounds like a winner in your hands if it engrosses you that much. I remember you playing a strat and a Gibson in a music video you posted way back . You play very well.
Glad to see you with another instrument that will take you places musically, that's what every musician needs, an instrument that inspires them Good work. It took me 20 years to find a Start I liked, I guess I'm hard ta please

Re: new strat!!!!
Prolly some punk ass kid at the guitar shop rubbed on it. Some people do stupid crap like that. It's still a cool ass guitar and all that matters is how it plays and sounds.
Edit: I just noticed this, what do you mean? What's an "orst"

Re: new strat!!!!
Great score!
My '02 American Series is also chrome red, LOVE that color. Strats are great guitars, been playing them since the late 1960's. However, my '06 LP Std is my main squeeze right now

I may have told you before but I hated Strats a year ago. I got a wild hair one day, played a bunch, came home with one. Now I have the C/S and the "Blackie" and love them.

Re: new strat!!!!
Seriously, you just may hate us if you play the right one. I have played a couple C/S' that were turds so don't give up if that happens. When you play the right one, your toes will curl. My buddy that works at Gruhn in Nashville played mine one night and didn't want to give it back. He said (and I quote) "I play different guitars every day and NEVER have I played one that felt this right, it is unreal!!!"

Re: new strat!!!!
ummm, yea. you will likely walk out with one. HAGGLE YOUR ARSE OFF! I got 2700 down to 1900 because this piece had been in the store so long and had a blem or 2. Its a buyers market, they NEED the sale.

Re: new strat!!!!
Thanks for the pics and the review. Are you asking about the positions on the pickup switch?

Re: new strat!!!!
yes, currently has a 3 way. Will the 5 way change the tone in any way of the 3 original positions?

Re: new strat!!!!
Oh hell, I hadn't even thought of that, it IS a 56 RI so I should have known. Truthfully I don't know. I have heard stories of players jamming matchbooks in the switch so it would stick in what is now the 2 and 4 positions though. Sorry I couldn't help on that one.

Re: new strat!!!!
Very nice Strat. There is something about that red color that makes it look like it is screaming even when it's on the stand. Speaking of the stand: Where did you get those specialized socks to protect the guitar from scratches. I hope the aren't stinkin' up the thang!
