I dulled the finish down some on Baby Shit - I think it looks a little better with the matte finish rather than the glistening poop colored finish that it had before:

dice', Don't hold your breath looking for a pickguard that lines up with the screw holes of the original. It's expected with Squiers that you'll need to fill & drill (or just drill) a few to match the new one. My standard Strat' only matched 3 holes on a Proline guard. Take a close look at the nut when you get a chance. Some are OK, most are soft, poorly cut junk.

Glad that you like the Tele'. I'm still gassin' for a real one, but for now my '51 fills the need.

C-Sharp - I'm just hoping that the guard itself fits, and don't care too much about the holes. I'll drill them all if needed - as long as the PG fits the pickup/horn/heel. We'll hope... If not, I'm only out $17 and can probably sell it in the classifieds for just a few dollars loss...

I just did Hillbilly's switch mod... I like it! I didn't do anything other than flip it - I thought about moving the volume to the front and then flipping the switch around... but I like the volume in the middle, and I like the fact that I can grab that switch and slam it forward for my bridge pickup - its just an easier motion than pulling the switch back is.

Well, its officially "tomorrow" as it is midnight - Baby Shit will be gigging tonight. It should be a good time.

First time I saw a Tele, as a kid, thought it was broken with all those screws and things exposed...

Things changed the first time I played one. I'm a believer! I love Teles dearly, I think they complement the Les Paul in a perfect, very efficient way!

Congrats Dice, welcome to the dark side. Yep, they're ugly! I hated the looks of the Tele for years - wouldn't touch one, then one day in a guitar store I played one for the first time, and it was a good one and I bought it - a MIA Ash Tele. I have 3 Teles now, thank you Leo Fender!

Marto - I don't know if there is a "right" way to do it. I literally just flipped the whole damn thing around - forward on the 3 way is my bridge pup, back is my neck - tone out front, volume in the middle. I like it. You don't have to move the pots - they still function the same way (still turn the same way). You could easily flip the 3 way as well, and if you wanted you could switch the vol/tone pots without having to disturb any solder. (my leads were long enough, anyways).

Whenever I play a Tele, the switch was always in my way, trying to get to the Volume control.

Well, in my way of thinking, on a guitar there are general guidelines, but no RULES, so I put the Volume control where it was easy for me to get to, because I'm constantly fiddling with the Volume control. And moving the switch to "the back" isn't that big of a reach, but it stays out of my way.

In addition, I put a coil-tap wire on a Psychebilly humbucker, and put a coil tap on the Tone control.

So the Volume is first, a coil-tap Tone in the middle, and then the 3-way switch that operates "normally" with the neck pickup 'forward' and the bridge pickup 'back'.


BTW, this is nothing "new"---Tele pickers for years have been doing this...

I played a Tele "modern vintage" (or something like that) yesterday - it was very nice - and had the switch plate flipped from the factory.

Thanks Diceman. That seems so simple even I could do it. If I do, I'll leave the knobs as they are. By the way, you might consider a cutaway ashtray on that thang.

Neither is in baby sh yellow but one is a Squier, and I've forever wanted to change the pickguard on that to a deep blue. Never could find one that was sold, always assumed I'd have to cut my own... Some days, I really like the brushed metal that's on there though...

Military?

I was for 4 years, but after I got out I was back to my usual antics. Started out with bright green hair. Hell, I'm 27 and I had a 5 inch mowhawk about a year ago.

Active Military for a while, now I'm in the National Guard, part time law enforcement, and in law school. Also 27 y/o.

Last night right after I got done playing - the guitarist from the first band came up to the side of the stage, said something like "hey man - that was great. Here." and tried to hand me a packed bowl. I said "dude... don't trip out - and it is cool - but I'm a cop - so I can't take you up on that." He about pissed himself! I ended up buying him a beer a couple of minutes later...

I was standing up on top of some monitors on this one - it was a lot of fun. All you can see of the guitar is a little bit of neck. The guy on the left (my right) with the blond curly hair is the one who was offering me the weed! He was a good guitar player too - very good.
