Parts-o-caster 60's Strat copy build

I decided to piece my own early 60's style strat together. I will post photos of my progress. so far I have a neck on order, in the mail to me as we speak. It is finished in nitro with a 61/62 repro decal and real clay dots. The neck has been professionally reliced. It is in the mail, but the guy I got it from sent me these photos. When it arrives I will post better pics.

Re: Parts-o-caster 60's Strat copy build

Man...that is a nice neck...Can´t wait to see more pics.

I´m thinking of taking the finish off the back of my Strat neck too - that would really push it over the edge.

I´m looking forward to see the parts of your project come together!

Re: Parts-o-caster 60's Strat copy build

Thanks Olli, I say go for it on removing the finish. I actually started gas'n for an old style strat after seeing yours and that Road Worn Diceman bought.

I have never mounted a nut, string tree, or drilled mounting holes for tuners so it should be an adventure.

Re: Parts-o-caster 60's Strat copy build

Does it allready have frets on there?

I really like the Fender Spagetti - Logo on the headstock of yours - looks much mor classy than the transitional 66 Logo on my Masterbuilt and has a nice vintage vibe!

What color did you plan on doing for the body? I vote "reliced black" . That looks awesome with the RW board.

I love an unfinished neck.. between my BFG and my Strat, I'll take the BFGs neck.

Coming soon? No finish on the strat's neck.

Re: Parts-o-caster 60's Strat copy build

Here's one last photo he sent.

I haven't exactly decided on the color yet. I have been leaning towards sonic blue lately, but I want to fade the finish by putting the guitar out in the sun like I have seen some other people do with there les pauls. I want it to fade to a real light blue almost white.

Re: Parts-o-caster 60's Strat copy build

I am hoping the end result will look somthing like this 1960 CS Relic, but cost me 1/3 of what a CS Strat would.

A string, that's a nice strat!

Saw this black one on ebay. Man, if could get the paint and wood to look like this, I would totally go black (and never come back)!

Nah, just adds more character.

That black one is a Mayer style replica for sale on ebay right now...

Re: Parts-o-caster 60's Strat copy build

A String:

that is a very cool guitar....I really love the checking you did on it. Looks authentic to me!
The wear is also nice and even and in all the places you´d expect it to be. Looks definitely cooler than my Customshop Strat to my eye!

More closeup pics on the checking and the wear please!

The mayer Strat is nice.....Fender is going to make 83 Masterbuilt copies off of it and an unlimited amount of "production -level" guitars.
I hope they´ll make regular team-builts too so I don´t have to buy the Masterbuilt but if I get the chance to snatch one of the 83 here in Germany I WILL buy it!

Re: Parts-o-caster 60's Strat copy build

I keep seeing relic'd white strats, and I'm getting the urge to do mine now! A string, I like how yours turned out; in the first pictures, the guitar looked good, but in the second set, she looks like a whole new animal! I love it

Re: Parts-o-caster 60's Strat copy build

Was out of town last week, but the neck was waiting for me when I got back. my camera is a piece of crap, but I took some photos. The neck looks really good in person. Hard to get all the subltle details in the photos. The clay dot inlays really add a nice touch.

Love the look.

Has anyone tried the compressed air in a can freezing method for the checking effect?

Very authentic.

I have a '57 Sonic Blue reissue. Maple fb, of course. The colour is fantastic. It has a subtle greenish tinge to the flat surfaces of the guitar, caused by the ageing process. Its 17yrs old now.

I really like the look of the Sonic Blue rosewood fb with 3 ply scratch plate in the pic.

Here you go.

It's hard to get an accurate pic, but you can see (hopefully) the 'bluer' original colour on the worn edge area:

Been considering buying a hwy 1 body for this project. Anyone know if the 3 color sunburst is all nitro or does it have a poly undercoat?
