Re: Jimmy Page on a Tele

A few years ago when Gene Simmons was promoting his solo album, I watched a show featuring him, and he was shown in a studio with a Telecaster.
THAT was surreal!

Re: Jimmy Page on a Tele

I love the tele sound that JP got on the first two Led Zep albums, it's amazing that you can go from Nashville twang to heavy rock with the right player on the same guitar.

Re: Jimmy Page on a Tele

the dragon tele IMO is the ideal sound for a telecaster.everybody said it was a 52 tele, but i think its a 59?

jimmy had a 4 way switch so he could get the 2 single coils wired like a humbucker
(of course that might just be another page-legend)

Re: Jimmy Page on a Tele

the dragon tele was one jeff beck gave him for joining the yardbirds and helping out. and page dressed it up quite a few times, it was originally white, then he put a bunch of gold stickers on it then it went to being the dragon way u see. but while he was out on tour with zep, a friend thought hed be doing a favor to page by spraying it a solid color to LOOK NORMAL but did a horendous job so page dumped the body then put the neck on his brown colored tele i beleive given to him by eric clapton (not positive)

Its a 58 because its not a thorugh the body, you put the strings in a bridge that year tele but the otehr teles the string goes through the body

Many argue if it was a 59 or a 58 later model

Re: Jimmy Page on a Tele

It was a string through body, he just prefered to top load it. Check the History of Jimmy Page's guitars thread over in the vintage section for more info on it. Theres some pics floating around that clearly show the string ferules on the back and the top loaded bridge on the front.

On a side note he has a really sweet blonde tele with a bbender and whammy bar setup on the new It Might Get Loud movie. Actually, with 1400+ guitars, I'm sure he has a lot of really fantastic teles!

He changed his post. The original is quoted above. I know what he means now.

Cool, I never noticed that. I like the toploader bridges myself, actually.

I wonder why he preferred the top load? Possibly less string breakage?
