STARTED THE RELICING PROCESS, MORE PICS...

IT IS STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS, I STILL HAVE A LOT OF WORK TO DO ON THE NECK ITSELF AND I WILL POST MORE PICS LATER. THE PICK GUARD FOR THE HUMBUCKER, KNOBS AND CONTROL PLATE WON'T BE IN UNTIL NEXT WEEK, SO I WILL HAVE TO HOLD OFF ON A FEW THINGS UNTIL THEN.

Re: Newest tele project: Custom relic build

Thanks Madam, Duncan single coil size humbucker in traditional Tele bridge(forget model # pu), and a full size 59' Humbucker in neck. The owner sent all this stuff to me, he had picked it all out himself. It is also getting dual push pull pots for coil splitting, probably 3 way switch vs 4 way, electro-socket input jack. Kind of a "Sleeper" it will look Vintage but it will have a souped up V-8 under the hood and pretty much be a do it all Telecaster

FINISHED UP RELIC'ING THE TUNERS AND GOT THEM ON, ALSO DARKENED UP THE SPOTS I SANDED DOWN ON THE FRETBOARD AND BACK OF NECK. SOME OF THE BRIDGE PARTS DIDN'T LOOK CRUSTY ENOUGH SO THEY ARE STILL SOAKING.

jonesy, I've never heard of Musikraft until this thread. How does their craftmanship compare to Warmoth?

about

To be honest I have not heard of them either until this guitar was shipped to me from the owner. The fret work and nitro is awesome, most of these necks are made in japan. I know all the ones from Allparts come from Japan and the quality is equal to the US fender stuff. I have not used Warmoth much but have sen there stuff and it is about the same quality as this neck or one I would get from Allparts. It's about as nice as the neck on my American Standard Strat

Wink Re: Newest tele project: Custom relic build

A couple of details I may have not mentioned is that the neck and body are both sprayed with nitro so the Relic'ing looks much nicer and is easier to make it look realistic. I think the body may have come from Bernie(B. Hefner) The bridge is a Traditional Style Tele bridge by Joe Barden and has the compensated brass saddles where the middle saddle is angled back to help correctly intonate the G string. You can also get a set of the compensated Danny Gatton style from Stewmac.com and they are only about $15 and will fit on your existing Fender bridge. I have use those a lot and found them to be the best brass compensated saddle because the have no material cut away and give best Tone and Sustain without the tuning problems that stock saddles can sometimes have.
This type of vintage bridge and the Brass saddles IMHO are part of the key to getting that real Tele Tone many players are after. The modern heavy bridge's with 6 saddles have a thicker sound and I prefer those on "Rock" friendly Tele's. I will post some more pics as I go along, thanks for all the nice comments peace, jonesy

Thanks bro it's far from done, but I like the way it is coming along so far. I think when you put together a guitar yourself, it can be sometimes more fulfilling than just buying one off of the shelf

Wink Re: Newest tele project: Custom relic build

Here is the Joe Barden Scooped bridge I am using. Still waiting on the springs and saddles to get a little more color. I put them in muratic acid first to give them a nice grey color and everything looked cool but the springs. They were still shiny and did not turn color until I put them in a salt paste. I found a semi-wet/dry paste of salt allows oxygen to get to parts and they end to rust a lot quicker than immersing them in salt water. Setting it under a light bulb or outside in the sun where it is warm speeds up the process.

After the water evaporates you start to get this...

I have owned two necks from Musikraft and they were outstanding. They I told them what I was looking for and sent them EXACTLY as described. The necks I bought were "seconds" and they were the best strat necks I've ever played. I can only imagine what their first quality necks are like.
