My relic style fender clone...

It's a guitar that I really love... probably as much as I can love a Strat...

Check the pics:

guitar in the style of a 62 strat minus logo....
nicely reliced... alnico III pickups by BKP... callaham block... jumbo frets... blender pot and Hovland tone cap ( 47 nF )

Re: My relic style fender clone...

Some improvements: I filed down the nut to the right height. No tone dampening now!! Also I have changed the Hovland cap for a SoZo and a superpot for volume. Massive improvement. I can't really stop fiddling with the tone control now "modelling" my tone. Great. Last but not least I've installed a set of Titanium saddlesfrom DeTemple Guitars. Wow! the high strings now sound more robust and the low strings have a nice clear twang to them.

The guitar sounds great. The only thing I'vegot in mind is to swap the corian nut for a unbleached bone one whenever possible but the guitar is 99% there. Shame I don't play it much these days ( more of aGibson man these days ) but I don't think many Strats can't sound much better. Honest!

Re: My relic style fender clone...

cheers for your comment Paul

The hardware now looks a bit better ( older ) and the plastic parts ahve been aged a bit as well. As for the fretboard.... I don't like tatty-looking fretboards so it's alright with me as it is... nice rosewood BTW.

Re: My relic style fender clone...

Where did you get your pickup height screws? I can't find ones with the correct sized head to sit flush with the top of the pickguard...yours looks like they do. Mine don't and it looks like shit:

Re: My relic style fender clone...

the bridge pieces should be rusted from the sweat from your hand resting on it and the sanding is good but the headstock chips look way to new and the laqure is way to thick on the headstock. no dints or scratches on the body (ther should be some) use a wool cloth and give the whole body a good scrubbin and the headstock too this will give trillions microscopic scratches it jsut takes the factory sheen off the finish and dont clean the the body or parts just get rid of any dust and leave any sweat smudges on the body eg jsut play the dam thing and dont wipe it down.
